Kyle Newman Taking Over War Monkeys for Dark Horse

Due to a scheduling conflict (he's currently shooting Dead of Night), Kevin Munroe won't be able to direct War Monkeys, the upcoming action comedy being produced by IESB's Robert Sanchez. STYD is reporting that Fanboys director Kyle Newman (seen above) will fill in for Munroe and direct the film. As a reminder, War Monkeys is about two janitors who get trapped in an underground research facility full of an army of military-trained research monkeys. The script was written by Cleve Nettles (All Over Again) and is based on a story by Chris Patton (Monarch of the Moon). Dark Horse Indie is developing the project.
"Monkeys, guns, explosions. As a genre freak, I couldn't ask for anything more," Munroe said previously in regards to War Monkeys. We originally reported that this project was in development with Munroe late last year. I've been quite excited for War Monkeys, primarily because its been hyped up as one of those incredibly fun indie projects, and I was looking forward to seeing Munroe direct it. I'm not sure if Newman will be able to handle all the action just yet, but he will definitely be able to bring the laughs, that's for sure. Hong Kong actor Sammo Hung was cast in this last year, although we're not sure if he's still on board.

I hope they don't turn this into a comedy. Isn't it supposed to be horror/action? Too much emphasis on the laughs and suddenly it's cheap slapstick comedy. Lame.

By Cthulhu you just can't go wrong with monkeys!
Okay, I know Tim Burton went wrong with monkeys and I still can't figure out how he pulled THAT one off. But for the most part, you just can't go wrong with monkeys!
You CAN go wrong with chimps however. Just ask that fat dimwit in LA who got his fingers, nose, and balls ripped off.
