One Final Mutant Chronicles TV Spot for Your Enjoyment
April 4, 2009
by Alex Billington
I was just sent an e-mail earlier tonight by a reader who was alerting me that Mutant Chronicles was already available to watch via On Demand right now. And then I found this TV spot and thought it'd be a perfect way to feature some new footage from this and let everyone know that if you want to check it out, you can already do so. I don't exactly know if this will be a great film or not (I'm going to try and watch it this weekend), but it at least looks like a very unique and stylish indie sci-fi flick, and I'm a sucker for those kinds of films. Give it a shot if you're still on the edge about it, and check it out sometime this month.
From one of the only positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes: "There's no doubting the frenetic energy of Simon Hunter's steampunk thriller with its deft mixing of CGI and live action. The mutants are artforms of grotesqueness and truly terrifying." Oh well, I'll still give it a chance anyway, even if it is pretty bad.
Watch this last minute TV spot for Mutant Chronicles:
Set in the year 2707, on an unrecognizable Earth where a war is raging between four giant corporations over the planet's dwindling resources. This war is soon rendered irrelevant when an errant bomb shatters an ancient buried seal, releasing a horrific mutant army from its prison deep within the earth. As the mutant scourge threatens human extinction, a squad of ragged soldiers, led by Mitch Hunter (Thomas Jane), descends into the earth in a last ditch effort to destroy the mutants and save mankind.
Mutant Chronicles is directed by English filmmaker Simon Hunter, of only the 2000 horror movie Lighthouse previously. The screenplay was written by Philip Eisner of only Event Horizon and Firestarter 2 previously. The film has been having problems finding a distributor, but Magnet Releasing eventually came to the rescue. They will be bring Mutant Chronicles to limited theaters very briefly on April 24th.

I happened to watch this OnDemand and I really enjoyed it. The special effects werent the best but they made it work for the film. Had a B-movie feel to it but still really enjoyable. Lots of big names in it as well which surprised me. Even John Malkovich has a small role in it. I would definately watch it again.

I was the one that sent the note when i found it on demand today. Its also available on Xbox 360 marketplace for viewing.
Why did they do this early preview release?
Anyways…was glad they did it..but have to say i wasnt the biggest fan of the movie. It was VERY B movie…i expected better effects with such a great cast.

Awful movie, from the script to the acting, directing, everything… Actually, the movie is (loosely) based on a Swedish roleplaying game from the early 90s, which I used to play (I´m from Sweden). So I really rooted for this movie, but had to face the fact that it´s a total failure in almost every respect.

it's rubbish.
although i did watch it in the cinema on it's UK release, maybe it would seem better on the small screen on DVD.

I got the dvd release in the UK and it took 3 attempts to watch it. Kept falling asleep it's so bad. Shame as the idea was great but just so badly executed.

This is out on DVD in the UK. I thought it was ok. A couple of good lines and scenes but the whole blue screen thing was just too much. You could tell they weren't there and attempts to make things look stylish just made them look silly.
Oh and steam powered spaceships, please!

I think that everyone here needs to understand that this guy didn't exactly get the hundreds of millions of dollars that Michael Bay and others get to make this movie.
THEY SIMPLY DID THE BEST THEY COULD WITH THE MONEY THEY HAD! No fault in that. Watch it for what it is. Don't compare to other sci-fi movies that have the mega budget. That's just ignorant.

I really liked this film, fresh concept, good acting, low budget effects handled well with excellent cinematography and lighting.
I'd recommend it to any sci fi fans.

This movie looks miserable. Perlman needs to step up his game, he could be so much more.

I downloaded it on Amazon unbox on my Tivo and all I can say is that the Mutant Chronicles sucked ASS. It could have been one of those made for SciFi channel pieces of shit. 9.99 wasted and I turned the movie off after 10 minutes. Piece of shit.
Did I mention it sucked ASS?

WOW..im amazed at what a strong cast this had…for such a bad movie..
I dont like putting down independent effort..but this falls into a low B movie quality..
As far as B movies go..it was well…ok..
I was so happy to see this was available On Demand, I had caught "Special" on demand before it was released and was very pleased to give $10 for the indie effort..(I even gave it a good written review for Netflix) but this time around…I want my money back!! sorry guys..

oh yea, I wanted to turn it off after the first few minutes, but felt like I had to force myself to watch the whole thing as I didnt want to waste $10..I watched the whole thing..still want my money back!
