Jennifer Garner to Star in Jason Micallef's Comedy Butter
April 7, 2009
by Alex Billington
One of the top scripts on last year's Black List (the best unproduced screenplays) was one called Butter written by newcomer Jason Micallef, a political satire set in the small-town world of competitive butter-sculpting. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Butter has found one of its stars, none other than Jennifer Garner. De Luca Productions exec Alissa Phillips brought De Luca the script, and Garner and Juliana Janes of Vandalia Films are in negotiations to serve in some producing capacity. Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) and Gary Ross (Pleasantville) are among the directors circling the project.
Described as Election meets Best in Show, Butter follows a young orphan who, after being adopted by a Midwestern family, discovers she has an uncanny talent for butter-carving. She eventually finds herself up against the ambitious wife (Jennifer Garner) of the retired reigning champion in a town's annual butter-sculpting contest. It sounds pretty interesting, and considering it ended up at #3 on the Black List, we know that it's definitely a great script. Garner has been kind of hit or miss recently, with hits like The Kingdom and Juno, and misses like Elektra and Catch and Release. Hopefully Butter is another one of those hits.

I like Garner and expect everything in a good performance and "hits" always.

My god she is one beautiful woman! I want to see her in an Alias type movie. Loved her in The Kingdom but underused a bit. She can kick my ass any day!
