Semi-Pro's Kent Alterman Directing Treehouse Gang Next

Kent Alterman Directing Semi-Pro

Did you enjoy Semi-Pro last year? Good, neither did we. Director Kent Alterman has lined up his next project called Treehouse Gang which he will develop for Warner Brothers and Heyday Films. Described it as a grown-up version of The Goonies, Treehouse Gang is about a group of six childhood friends who get together in their late twenties for a treasure hunt that echoes the hunts of their youth, in the process exploring longtime friendships and grudges. Anyone else think this sounds a lot like Jonah Hill and Max Winkler's Adventurer's Handbook spec script that was sold to Universal for seven-figures late last year?

Treehouse Gang is based on a spec script written by Timothy Dowling, of George Lucas in Love and Role Models previously. Hollywood Reporter is calling this "another step in Alterman's career evolution." He used to be a New Line exec who broke into directing with Semi-Pro. Okay, maybe I'll admit that the problems with Semi-Pro lie more in the writing than the directing, so maybe this will be a good project for Alterman to helm. I do like the concept, even though it also sounds like Derrick Comedy's Mystery Team as well, but as long as they find six great young actors, it should be fun. We'll let you know how this develops.
