Magnolia Bringing World's Greatest Dad to Theaters in Late August

World's Greatest Dad

One of the few films from Sundance this year that I've been telling everyone about is Bobcat Goldthwait's World's Greatest Dad. It's an immensely dark comedy starring Robin Williams and Alexie Gilmore about, well, I almost don't want to tell you what it's about so I don't ruin your experience. This news today comes from The Wrap, where they say that Magnolia Pictures has picked up World's Greatest Dad and is planning to put out in theaters in late August in addition to an On Demand release prior. Great news, because I was worried this fantastic indie would get lost in the mix this year if someone didn't pick up.

In World's Greatest Dad, Robin Williams plays a teacher and wannabe author, whose son attends the same high school he teaches at. When his son accidentally kills himself, in an attempt to cover up the the details of his death, Williams inadvertently becomes the center of attention in the community. Unfortunately I never got the time to write a formal review for this at Sundance, but I can assure that it is a phenomenal film. I'd actually prefer to send you over to Film School Rejects, where Neil Miller wrote a fantastic review for it that should hopefully convince everyone that it's definitely worth seeing. Stay tuned for more!

Sounds like an interesting and funny film, I think I'll take a look at it if I get the chance.(And Magnolia, if you read this (well probably not…) - please do not forget fixing the subs for 'Let The Right One In…!)
