Frank Marshall Says Bourne 4 Will Hit in Summer of 2011
April 12, 2009

by Alex Billington
So it looks like Twitter really is becoming a good resource for updates. Producer Frank Marshall wrote a few updates on his Twitter (twitter.com/LeDoctor) recently related to Bourne 4, the in-development fourth sequel in the Jason Bourne series. "Bourne 4 is in the works for Summer 2011," Marshall wrote. He later added in another update that "George Nolfi is the writer of Bourne 4, [and he] should have a draft by June," mentioning that, "it really takes long to get these scripts right!" Of course! And especially on something like this, I'm more than happy that Marshall is taking as much time as he needs and not rushing into it.
Our last update on Bourne 4 hit in October, when it was officially confirmed that George Nolfi (of Ocean's Twelve, The Sentinel, The Bourne Ultimatum) was writing the script and that Paul Greengrass was back on board to direct. Before that, our last headline stated "Fourth Jason Bourne Film on Track for 2010", but obviously it will now be 2011, which means Nolfi will finish up this script soon and they'll shoot next year. Marshall said previously they'll probably take Bourne "down south" to South America in this fourth film, but story details aren't fully finalized, and with re-writes still occurring, who knows where they'll end up?
If you're also on Twitter, I'd suggest you follow Frank Marshall for more updates. And while you're at it, follow us as well at twitter.com/firstshowing. We'll let you know when we hear any more on Bourne 4!

Good news! I love the Bourne books and the movies. It will be interesting to see where they take the story.

Let this franchise die, I say. I liked the three, but come on.

Don't let it die. The third movie was exciting and we want more!

The trilogy is very much what Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are to the James Bond flicks.
Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum, should be considered sort of the origins, and now it's time to take it to the next step.

#8 - This is part of what I like about a fourth film. People won't be able to call it a trilogy…

Having immensely enjoyed the Bourne Ultimatum and eagerly anticipating The Green Zone, I'm excited to see what adventures Damon and Greengrass will have in South America. Given Bourne's nature, I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to take on a death squad or something of that nature.
I figured this would be a 2011 release because 1) Bourne always follows Spidey and Spidey returns to theaters in 2011, 2) Greengrass is still busy polishing TGZ for fall of this year, and 3) Damon has an extremely busy schedule through the end of the year.
BTW, when we will hear more about Nolfi and Damon's other collaboration, The Adjustment Bureau?

#5 is right…it should end…I mean, what's the point in chasing Bourne again…all the bad guys are gone !!

Well maybe they'll spin the story different way now … they already said they won't be following any book

Bourne vs the guy from Taken. Who would win?
I'm excited for another. None of them will be as good as the first though

I haven't read the books but I thought 2 and 3 didn't follow the books either. Am I wrong?
I hated the idea of a 4th when it was announced but I think by the time '11 rolls around I could be ready for another one.

If they need a younger actor for flashbacks, they can't do any wrong than Wes Chatham currently in The Unit:

Looks AND sounds like Matt Damon!!

Some of my favorite movies of all time and I couldnt be more dissapointed. I cant see them living up to the original 3 along with teh fact that Ultimatum wrapped things up so perfectly. very sad day

Did james Bond end?
Why should Jason Bourne end? As long as the story is good, and it's worth paying $ to go see it, then it's fair game.
James Bond has been doing the same thing for 40 years or something, nobody complains.

@14 - None of the movies follow the books really. The Bourne Identity followed the book more than Supremacy and Ultimatum did, but it was still a lot different than the book.

as much as i love these movies and wish i was Jason Bourne. ya gotta start feeling tired for the guy. is he ever gonna just be able to sit down and have a beer? lol

I think it should be a prequel to "Identity". Just my humble opinion.

it will be interesting to see if they make there own story or if they base the movie on one of the many more books that have been written since the last movie came out

Begone troll! Damon is a far better actor than you could ever hope to be.
@23:
Last I heard, it would be their own story.

Personally, I appreciate the Bourne series and the work that Damon has done with the role…I remember the feeling of having to wait for The Bourne Ultimatum to come out, and when I heard that there would be a 4th Bourne movie out in 2010, I thought "I have to repeat the whole anticipation thing again" - but I feel that it was worth the wait for me…now that I read that the 4th movie will come out 1 year later (2011) I will have to live with that anticipation for an EXTRA year or so (that's possibly another 31+ million seconds!!)…
Regarding whether a 4th movie is "appropriate", I appreciate the comment by Darunia (4/13/09) that there has been no/little complaint about the ongoing James Bond series (and so why should we complain about an ongoing Bourne series?)…but - given that The Bourne Ultimatum was designed to bring some sense of closure for Bourne AND that the original Ludlum-based storyline was a trilogy - I could still understand the "complaints" (especially for Ludlum fans)…personally, I have not read the books, and I welcome a 4th Bourne movie…having said all this, and given that Bourne differs from Bond in that Bourne prefers to LEAVE his assassin identity (etc.), it would be nice at SOME point for Bourne to finally, finally relax (i.e., maybe he could see his family back in Missouri, and marry Nikki (Julia Stiles) and start a family…etc.)

I agree with # 22 Brian.
It should be a prequel but that being said how would they do such a thing when they already showed a background on him throughout the trilogy.

Bourne could become the next Bond franchise………just keep the wacky gadgets out of Bourne.

To respond to Christoph from #27, they should make a prequel of him doing all of his assassin jobs before he failed to do the one on the boat from the first one, at least that is my take.
