Watchmen Writer Alex Tse Set to Adapt Battling Boy

Alex Tse, co-writer of the twenty-five-years-in-the-making adaption of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon's graphic novel Watchmen, has been pegged to adapt yet another graphic novel, Battling Boy, as announced by THR today. Battling Boy, from Eisner-award winner Paul Pope, has none of the tumultuous baggage attached to it that Watchmen did and, in fact, hasn't even had time to garner any kind of following as the comic has yet to even be released. Last year we reported on Paramount's option of Battling Boy, then set for a 2010 release, but it seems that the comic's release has been expedited to the spring of this year.
The graphic novel follows the son of a god who, at his father's urging, descends from his mountain-top home to rid the continent-sized city of Monstropolis of a plague of beasts. That either sounds incredibly bad ass or extremely ridiculous (especially the Monstropolis part). I can't decide which. Regardless, it's an intriguing project to be adapted by one of Hollywood's fastest rising stars. Tse has a lot on his plate at the moment, with three other scripts in the works: the live-action adaption of Ninja Scroll, the adaptation of Ray Bradbury's The Illustrated Man, and Frankie Machine, to be helmed by Michael Mann. Busy man. But that aside, how's Battling Boy sound to all of you? I've decided - bad ass. Had me at "plague of beasts."

I've had the honor of meeting and talking to Alex Tse and he is a very smart guy. That being said, these kind of things don't go too far, especially since the comic hasn't even been published yet.

Paul Pope is a great artist and writer too, he does his research when creating worlds, but it might be a hard one to do on screen with giant monsters battling.
That's mad that it was picked up before the comic even came out.
100% will be a good film, I think the rights to that have been bought too.

Love Paul Pope. Would love to see him get his hollywood payday.
But perhaps an animated film might be better? Or a mix?
Too early to speculate.
I would, however, LOVE to see an independent film made of his book, "100 %".

paul pope is a badass, but his strength is in part in his story telling but stronger in his art, a film BASED on his ideas might not be anywhere near the same minus his awesome personal storytelling style! Either way, Im glad to see more attention being given to other artists and other NON Men in tights stories..Keeping my fingers crossed..
