William Hurt the Latest to Join Ridley Scott's Robin Hood
April 13, 2009
by Brandon Lee Tenney
Last month we released a nearly full cast list for Ridley Scott's upcoming film, Robin Hood. And if you thought this already star-studded cast couldn't get any better, well, enter William Hurt. who's been tapped to play William Marshall, the Earl of Pembroke. The Oscar-winning actor is to portray one of the most powerful men in Europe and, historically, one of the best jousters of the era. As if Russell Crowe re-teaming with Scott in the dual role of Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian wasn't enough, Hurt really pushes this whole project into the realm of juggernauts. Everyone excited?
As a recap, this version of Robin Hood follows Robin from his early days in King Richard's army to his return to Nottingham to his creation of a band of mercenaries who challenge the sheriff and eventually try to prevent civil war. As we already know, Crowe will play Robin Hood, Blanchett will play Maid Marian, Oscar Isaac will play King John, Mark Strong will play Sir Godfrey, Vanessa Redgrave will play Queen Eleanor, and Léa Seydoux will play Princess Isabella. The script was written by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris (of Bulletproof Monk, "Sleeper Cell") as well as Oscar winner Brian Helgeland (of L.A. Confidential).

Is Robin Hood based on actual events? Or is it just a classic fictional tale?

More great actors just adds up to a bigger waste. The script needs to be shredded and rewritten from scratch for this movie to have any hope.

Devon: What script have you read? The available only version I know of is the Reiff/Voris version and that was scrapped a while ago.
