Eon Productions Developing Adaptation of Remote Control

I thought they only made Bond movies? Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli's Eon Productions has acquired motion pictures rights to "Remote Control", a forthcoming thriller novel by Mark Burnell. The book follows a former war correspondent, now British corporate intelligence analyst, who gets caught up in a conspiracy by Western corporations to destabilize the Chinese economy. Following the trail to the United States, he discovers that his former lover is also being pursued. On the run together, they try to unravel the mystery of the conspiracy while trying to stay alive. Well that sounds pretty damn interesting, I'm in!
"Our collaboration with Michael and Barbara on Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace was extraordinary and special and we all wanted to find another way to work together. Mark Burnell's new novel is an exciting thriller and it's precisely the kind of material that Michael and Barbara will be able to adapt so well," said Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad. As much as this is good for Eon and Columbia, I hope it doesn't mean Bond 23 has been delayed or is otherwise having troubles. Is it a good sign that Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli want to make more than just Bond? I hope so. Will keep me eye on this as it develops.

Well, obviously this is good news. You can't blame them for wanting to stretch a little and think about their future. It's just a surprise it's taken them this long to try something a little different.

Also, am I the only one that thinks some elements of that plotline would work really well as a Bond movie? Maybe they should try that - buy the rights to good solid thrillers and rework them for Bond.

Kinda sounds like they plan to adapt the material into a story for a future Bond movie, but something different would be fun too.

Thought so, too, Mathieu. That or they bought it because it sort of resembles an already existing draft for Bond 23, so they can make sure that at least Remote Control will not be done and released before 2011. Hach, just thinking of that option makes me want to watch QoS again. Now, where was that DVD…
