Sofia Coppola to Shoot Somewhere in the Chateau Marmont

Yesterday we wrote about Francis Ford Coppola, today we're writing about his daughter Sofia Coppola, who is working on her fourth feature film. Variety announces that Coppola has cast Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning in her new project called Somewhere. The dramedy will be set at the iconic Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood and will follow a "bad-boy actor" stumbling through life who lives in excess at the hotel. With an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter, he is forced to reexamine his life. Sounds like she's getting back to her Lost in Translation roots; that film primarily took place at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo.
Coppola has wanted to make "an intimate story set in contemporary Los Angeles," and only recently received permission to shoot at the hotel. The project is being developed by Focus Features, who previously distributed Lost in Translation. Focus CEO James Schamus said, "Lost in Translation remains among Focus' most beloved movies, so we have long looked forward to making another picture with Sofia. Somewhere will have all the witty, moving and empathetic qualities that characterize all her work." I loved Lost in Translation, so I'm excited to see this come together, especially with Dorff and Fanning as well.

While I'm a fan of Lost in Translation, this story line has been done many times before. There better be a new twist to it or it will be lost in remake.

I'm sure Coppola is smart enough to know that this story has been done before and that she will have to do something different. And I'm sure she has.

Bad Boy actor.
Will he hit someone with a phone?
Will he punch his mother or wife?
Will he accidentally overdose before the performance of his career?
I've already seen this film on the news, it's boring.
What is it with filmmakers making films about people making films?
She probably spent a long time growing up in hotels, so maybe that's why she likes to set films in them. I liked Lost In Translation, it was pretty good, we'll see, the phrase 'bad boy actor' is funny.

Sofia Coppola is one of my favorite movies, I loved both "Lost In Translation" and "Virgin Suicides", and to some extend "Marie Antoinnette", and I'm counting on her that this movie will be great as well! The only thing I don't like is that she has Stephen Dorff as the lead… I don't think he can bring out the emotions Sofia is known to put in her movies.
