Weinstein Company Really Did Lose the Rights to Sin City 2?

A couple of weeks ago, it was first reported by IESB that The Weinstein Company (TWC) had lost the rights to Sin City 2. Thus, the sequel was looking for independent financiers, with Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios still in line to produce. After the news hit, Entertainment Weekly received a few updates from various TWC insiders saying that this news was all just complete bullshit. Well, speaking of bullshit, the Hollywood Reporter has just published an article saying that various producers have confirmed that they've been offered the rights to Sin City 2. If I were Frank Miller, I'd want to find a new studio, too.
Their article is as speculative as our first report, but because it's coming from THR, we know they have some good sources to back up their claims. "If the Weinsteins' option did lapse, it could have happened for reasons ranging from development inactivity to a decision not to pay to re-up," they suggest. However, Todd Bartoo on Twitter emphasizes that maybe "Dimension could be looking to make some quick cash by selling the rights to someone else." That makes more sense, but who knows. Whatever the case, it's great news that TWC is ridding themselves of Sin City 2, because it may actually get made at another studio.
The more I think about Sin City 2, combined with the release of Sin City on Blu-Ray this week, the more excited I get to see a sequel. I've just got a feeling that Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez could up the ante so much some five years after the first one. There's so much that they can bring to the table this time around and I really hope it comes together much sooner than later! Hopefully someone smart picks up the rights.

i would agree with number one about giving it to Lionsgate, but their advertising is kinda dull.

I don't care who makes it, I just want to see the damn thing. I love the first movie to death (blu-ray rocks!) and if the Weinsteins are holding it back, then it should go somewhere else.
