62nd Cannes Film Festival Official Selection Announced

The 62nd Cannes Film Festival official selection was announced this morning. A total of 52 films are featured in four categories: Competition, Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition, and Special Screenings. The festival kicks off on May 13th and last for 11 days until May 24th; I will be attending this year. It was previously announced that Pixar's Up is opening the festival. Highlights from this year's line-up at Cannes also include Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, Terry Gilliam's Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (which is Heath Ledger's last film), Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock, and many more. This looks like one of the best line-ups for Cannes that I've seen. Everyone from Ang Lee to Quentin Tarantino to Ken Loach to Lars von Trier to Sam Raimi will be there. Official site also has running times for each film. Interesting to see that Inglourious Basterds runs at 2 hours 40 minutes. Should be great.

I really hope Enter the Void is amazing. Gaspar Noe deserves serious recognition. If the flick is good I hope he receives the palm d'or. But #6 is right, I have total faith that he's going to once again alienate himself from the audience with the film, which I guess isn't particularly a bad thing.

This line-up is hands-down, one of the best I've yet to see coming out of Cannes in recent years. Personally can't wait to see Los Abrazos Rotos from Almodovar, (hate that we have to wait until November to watch it here, when in Spain it opened mid-march) Antichrist from Lars von Trier, who shocked and awed me with Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, and Dogville. Also, Michael Heneke's film should be something to look forward to, glad to see he's back to french actors given that his Funny Games remake fell through the cracks.
Love Tarantino, but somehow this film hasn't gotten mildly excited, not sure why, but something's off about it. Same goes for Ang Lee, not feeling his Woodstock vibe. Hope I'm wrong and the films are good.

Wow… Two years in a row for Brillante Mendoza!!!!!!!!!
His film "SERBIS" stirs mimi scandal on last years competition….. But still able to rave positive and not so positive reviews from critics…
I wonder how controversial this film "KINATAY" will be….. I hope critics will like it again….
I'm also very proud of 2 other Filipino film which made the list, "MANILA" and "INDEPENDENCIA"…..
This was the first time Philippines got a 2 consecutive years of official selection from Cannes… The last time was I think 20 years ago…..
Looking forward to see most of the films….

Great to see Andrea Arnold's second feature film entered.Her first Red Road was Brilliant. Andrea has picked a great cast For Fish Tank, Michael Fassbander(hunger),Kirsten Warring(Rise of the Foot Solider)Harry Treadaway(city of Ember) as well as some great new raw talent that she has a way of discovering. Katie Jarvis,Charlotte Collins and Chelsey Chase. Dispite the big Fish Directors being at Cannes, I am sure this great british talent can swim with the big fish.
