Denzel Washington to Star in Tony Scott's Unstoppable
April 23, 2009
by Alex Billington
Remember that "unstoppable train action movie" that Tony Scott is directing called Unstoppable? Well they just found their lead - Denzel Washington. Denzel has starred in five of Tony Scott's movies, so it's obvious these guys have a great working relationship. I just can't imagine an "unstoppable train action movie" being such a great concept that Fox is pushing it into development so quickly; they're on track to start shooting in the fall. Washington will play an engineer who jumps in a locomotive with a young conductor to chase down a runaway train carrying toxic chemicals. Mark Bomback wrote the script.
Our friends over at SlashFilm did a bit of research to find out the details behind the "true event" that this is based on. Apparently a runaway freight train traveled 70 miles with no one at the controls for nearly two hours before rail workers were able to slow it down by latching a second engine to the end of the train and applying the brakes. While two of the train's tank cars contained thousands of gallons of the hazardous material molten phenol acid, the runaway train itself was considered more of a threat than the chemicals on board. I wonder if they're working in some sort of terrorist plot or government scheme or something?

Isn't "The Taking of Pelham 123" a movie about trains? Why would Denzel do two train movies?
Guy gets on my nerves… he needs to be doing better films.

Tony Scott is my favourite filmmaker. And Denzel is a fantastic actor, but I want Tony to move on for awhile from making films with Denzel. It's cool when they do make films together but it also becomes a bit tiresome. When Man on Fire came out it had been 9 years since they had made a film together, and yes that is too long, but Deja Vu came out 2 years after Man On Fire and now this year we have Taking Of pelham 123.
I still want these 2 to work together but Tony still needs to make other films without Denzel. His other films "True Romace/Enemy Of The State/Domino/The Last Boy Scout/Top Gun" where all great movies and Denzel was nowhere in sight. Guys please take a break from one another.
