Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rainn Wilson, and Natalie Portman in Hesher

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rainn Wilson, Natalie Portman

Well this just shot to the top of my most anticipated indie projects! Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Rainn Wilson have joined Natalie Portman in the indie dramedy Hesher, being directed by Spencer Susser. The story centers on a loser twenty-something (Gordon-Levitt) who invades the life of an awkward 13-year-old boy who is living with a pill-popping father and grandmother. Wilson will play the dad trying to keep his family together after the death of his wife. Portman, who is producing the film with Lucy Cooper, will play a supermarket worker for whom the kid falls for after she saves him from a bully. Read on for more details.

While this may be the directorial debut of Spencer Susser, you'll probably want to start memorizing that name. Susser directed a fantastic zombie short film called I Love Sarah Jane (watch it online right here) that showed a whole lot of promise and I can't wait to see how his first feature film turns out. This is undoubtedly an awesome cast that he's pulled together, which is part of the reason why I'm so excited for this. I really hope we don't hear much about it and it stays quiet again until it this debuts at a festival like Sundance next year, because I want to be surprised again. Shooting will begin next week in Los Angeles.

Sounds like the basic plot of the family indie movie with heart these days. Dysfunctional family + troubled kids.
