Kevin Grevioux's 'I, Frankenstein' Headed to the Big Screen
From vampires and werewolves to monsters. Director Patrick Tatopoulos, Underworld co-creator Kevin Grevioux, and Death Ray Films are teaming up to bring the comic book I, Frankenstein to the big screen. Published by Darkstorm, the forthcoming comic brings together various classic monsters, including Frankenstein's Monster, the Invisible Man, Dracula and the Hunchback of Notre Dame, in a contemporary film noir setting. The Monster, for example, has evolved, learned how to control his anger and now acts as a private investigator. Dracula, meanwhile, is a kingpin of crime, and the Invisible Man is a secret operative.

Charming Trailer for Nick Cassavetes' My Sister's Keeper
New Line has debuted the trailer for the Nick Cassavetes drama My Sister's Keeper today over on Yahoo. This stars Cameron Diaz, Jason Patric, Abigail Breslin, Evan Ellingson, Sofia Vassilieva, and Alec Baldwin. The trailer is pretty straight forward and does a great job of explaining the story, so I don't think I need to say much. I will, however, say I was delightfully surprised. This is another one of those films, like Away We Go, that sort of came out of nowhere. I didn't even know it existed until today and its got quite an impressive cast. It looks like quite a heartwarming and simultaneously heartwrenching family drama.

Casting: Thomas Dekker in Elm Street; Patrick Wilson in Morning Glory
A couple of casting updates worth mentioning tonight. ShockTillYouDrop has confirmed that "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" star Thomas Dekker is the latest to join the cast of the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot being developed by Platinum Dunes. Dekker will star alongside of Kyle Gallner and Jackie Earle Haley, who will play Freddy Krueger. That remake is helmed by music video director Samuel Bayer and is written by Wesley Strick (Arachnophobia) and Eric Heisserer. In other news, THR reports that Patrick Wilson is the latest to join the cast of the J.J. Abrams' produced comedy Morning Glory.

First Trailer for Steven Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience
Coincidentally, I just walked out of a screening of The Girlfriend Experience, no more than five minutes ago. So I'm happy to now put up the trailer for Steven Soderbergh's latest low-budget indie feature, about the life of a $10,000 a night escort. It stars real-life pornstar Sasha Grey, but it's not a porno by any means, it's a rather fascinating character study. It's definitely worth seeing and I think this trailer does a great job of introducing the story and Grey's character, who is a rather cold and emotionless individual, for reasons you'll soon find out. The trailer comes from Hulu, so for now it's only available to US residents, apologies!

Eli Roth Divulges Details on His PG-13 Sci-Fi Action Flick
Nearly a year ago, we wrote about a project that Eli Roth revealed he had in the works, an untitled PG-13 sci-fi action film. He wouldn't reveal many details, and we haven't heard about it since, but MTV finally got an update from the actor/director, this time with a few more enticing updates, including that it may be his very next project. "I'm almost done with my new script," Roth said. "I was actually almost done with it before Basterds, but I had to put it down, and that was actually a good thing I took time away from it, but I'm going to finish that up and start shooting this fall." Trust me, this is one you'll want to hear about.

Roger Corman's Little Shop of Horrors Being Remade Again
Now this is a remake I want to see! Although many still call both Little Shop of Horrors films some of the greatest horror-comedy classics ever, I'd still love to see it remade again, and I'm not sure why. Horror sites ShockTillYouDrop and Bloody Disgusting are reporting that Wrong Turn 3 director Declan O'Brien will helm a remake of Roger Corman's classic. "After I did this movie for Roger called Cyclops he was so happy he said, 'This is the best movie that's come through my doors in 20 years, so here's my catalogue, pick something else.'" While he won't say much, O'Brien did reveal one thing: "It wont be a musical."

Must Watch: Intense New Trailer for The Hurt Locker!
To do this job, you have to be brave, you have to be crazy, and you have to be the best. This is not an Iraq war movie. This is an action movie. Summit has finally debuted the trailer for Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker. I saw this a few weeks ago and it's everything you'd want it to be and so much more. It's truly an extraordinary film and I can't suggest it enough. I almost don't want anyone to watch this trailer, because I don't want any of the incredibly thrilling moments to be spoiled. But everyone has to watch this, so that they realize how fantastic it is and they all go and see The Hurt Locker this summer. Please watch this trailer!

Tarantino's American Idol Inglourious Basterds Footage
"Because we love making movies!" Is this all a big joke? Nope, apparently Quentin Tarantino did actually appear on "American Idol" last night, and he apparently did show this bit of footage from Inglourious Basterds, which is all a bit odd because what fans of "American Idol" would event want to see this? Oh, right, probably all of them, because they're all in love with Brad Pitt. Anyway, The Weinstein Company has sent over this newest bit of footage from Inglourious Basterds that aired yesterday during "American Idol." Word is this footage below is the "too-hot-for-TV" version though, including Mike Myers, so check it out!

Spielberg Says Transformers 2 is Michael Bay's Best Movie?
Laugh all you want, I'm fuckin' excited for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen! Michael Bay just posted a "60 Day" update on his official forums and talked briefly about showing the movie to executive producer Steven Spielberg for the first time. "[He] sat next to me in a big 100 person theater at Sony today. There were 98 empty seats. The lights came up after we just watched my cut of Revenge of the Fallen. He turned to me and said 'It's awesome'. He felt this movie was better then the first - and probably my best, who knows - at this point in a movie you start to lose your objectivity. I just hope the fans like it."

The Weekly Moviegoer - Subscribing to the Cinema
I've been learning terrible things about some of my favorite movie theaters over the last couple months, so this week's column shall be a combination of mourning and business advice, the latter of which consists of an unlikely dream of mine that cinemas will one day learn from the very companies and distribution streams that are threatening to put the movie theater industry out of business forever.
First, a shout out to the Cerrito Speakeasy Theater (where that marquee photo above comes from), a favorite independent cinema of mine in El Cerrito, California, which somewhat resembles, in format

Starting All Over Again With an X-Men: First Class Franchise
So with X-Men Origins: Wolverine set to kick off the summer in a few weeks, you'd expect Fox or Marvel to actually want to continue the X-Men series. We've heard of an X-Men Origins: Magneto for a while now, but that project seems to have slowly disappeared into development hell. So what's next? If Wolverine is as big as we're all hearing, it'll be proof to Hollywood that the X-Men aren't dead yet. How about an X-Men 4? Eric Lehnsherr still had his powers at the end, right? Nope, instead it's looking like X-Men: First Class may be the new franchise. Yep, we're talking about kids, young mutants, as in a prequel, not a sequel.
