Now Jim Carrey is Interested in Kyle Killen's The Beaver?

Jim Carrey

Remember that wacky project from last year called The Beaver about a guy who walks around with a beaver puppet on his hand, treating it as something close to a human creature with human feelings? At the time, Steve Carell was in talks to play the lead role, and Jay Roach was showing interest in directing. Thanks to an update on the Risky Biz Blog today, it looks as if both Carell and Roach have fallen out, but Jim Carrey has stepped up. Those familiar with the situation say Carrey really likes the script and producers really like him for the role, though any casting would be dependent on who comes on to direct in the end.

The script, written by newcomer Kyle Killen, ended up in the #1 spot on last year's Black List of the hottest unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. Killen's script has generated an enormous of buzz in development circles, drawing comparisons to Being John Malkovich and Lars and the Real Girl. As of this moment, the producers would still love to shoot The Beaver sometime this year, but are still looking for a director, with offers out to several at the moment. One of them happens to be Jodie Foster, who has had conversations about helming. How does a beaver comedy starring Jim Carrey directed by Jodie Foster sound to you?

Sounds weird for a movie starring Jim Carrey to be directed by Jodie Foster, to me it's like both actors could never meet in a movie.
