Will Ferrell Stepping Up for Fox's Neighborhood Watch
May 6, 2009
by Alex Billington
The next comedy classic? Will Ferrell is set to star in Fox's Neighborhood Watch. The comedy project in development at the studio chronicles an "urbanite's journey" as he moves to a suburban community, joins the neighborhood watch and uncovers a large conspiracy. David Dobkin, who directed Wedding Crashers and Fred Claus previously, will be directing this from a screenplay written by newcomer Jared Stern. Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy had been eying the project as well, but will now only produce with his production partner Tom McNulty via their company 21 Laps. Can't wait to see who else they cast in this.
High concept comedies like this are perfect for Will Ferrel. No need for an elaborate story or anything too "smart," because all Ferrell needs is a well-written character like this to embody, and he can just let it go crazy from there. I'm already thinking of Anchorman and Old School and Wedding Crashers in relation to this, which is why I'm so interested in it, because those are some of my favorite comedies of the past few years. I just really hope Jared Stern's scripts is R-rated, although considering this is a Fox movie, I'm guessing it'll probably be PG-13 in the end, but we can still dream. We'll let you know how this develops!

Bring it on.
Dobkin's Wedding Crashers ranks right up there with Anchorman as one of my favorite comedies so I'm intrigued to see where this goes. Both of those films also starred Vince Vaughn as did Dobkin's Fred Claus…maybe we'll luck out and he'll join Farrell for this sure to be hilarious film. Can't wait to hear more.

First Karate Kid remake, now Burbs? Really? They can't do something diff? I love the Burbs and actually have it on DVR right now to watch again soon, but don't want to see Will play it.
