Talkin' Trek: Eric Bana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Bruce Greenwood
May 7, 2009
by Alex Billington
J.J. Abrams' USS Enterprise finally takes flight tomorrow. Commanding the ship on its maiden voyage is Captain Christopher Pike, played by Bruce Greenwood. Piloting it is Hikaru Sulu, played by John Cho, and handling both communications and navigation is Pavel Chekov, played by Anton Yelchin. But not all is right in the universe, as they encounter a quite pissed off Romulan named Nero, played by Eric Bana. A few weeks ago, after finally seeing the new Star Trek, I had the opportunity to sit down and talk Trek with these four actors, and it was quite an experience. I don't think I need to say much more, so dive right in.
Watch my interviews with Eric Bana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, and Bruce Greenwood:
These interviews were recorded and encoded by Paramount, and edited together by me, so I apologize for the somewhat bland editing. I've never done interviews this way before, so it was a rather eye-opening and all together awkward experience, as you can probably tell from some of my questions. But hopefully this video was at least mildly enjoyable, if not slightly informative. If you want to check out a vastly better interview about Star Trek, earlier this week I posted my entire chat with screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. And don't forget that J.J. Abrams' Star Trek hits theaters everywhere tomorrow, May 8th!

Is this the first time you've video interviewed at a junket in this format? (I can't recall any others)
If so, I think you did a very nice job. And I look forward to more video interviews from Firstshowing.

The studio had requested showings to begin tonight for Star Trek, my local IMAX has showigs at 7pm and 9:55 pm (Thursday!), no midnight showings…
I called the movie theater, and they said they are having those times per request of the studio company. I thought that was interesting.

Cho and Yelchin made up for the bad interview and it looked like they worked with you, like they knew. Guess there's a first time for everyone…
Bana and Greenwood were like, "Who is this person and why are they talking to me?" lol

I liked the interview, the one with Greenwood was indeed awkward because that seemed more like his thing. Whether he just has this imposing sort of humor that you didn't know how to deal with, or an imposing sense of humor coupled with a bad mood or whatever.
The other ones were good though, especially Cho and Yelchin.

I liked the interviews. Greenwood looked like he was thinking to himself, "Oh God another interview".

I saw the film 2 days ago. It opened here in Australia early. Let me tell you that movie audiences are in for a real treat. It is fantastic summer popcorn film. It is not only for the die hard trek fans, but for every movie fan out there that love big movies. Ironman was my fav film last year and at this stage Star Trek is for this year. I know Terminator and Transformers will be good, but this is gong to hard to beat.
