New Writer Hired for Warner Brothers' He-Man Movie
May 13, 2009
by Alex Billington
Last year we heard a lot of buzz about a script by Justin Marks called Grayskull: The Masters of the Universe based on the He-Man series. It was reviewed by El Mayimbe and said to be a "masterpiece" - quite high praise for the guy who went on to write Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Then in October, it was reported that Warner Brothers had put the project on hold, or so we thought. They've just now hired a new writer - first-timer Evan Daugherty - to write a fresh draft of Grayskull for the studio. They also confirm the news from last year that Kung Fu Panda director John Stevenson is still on board to direct.
The article on THR explains that the original He-Man is about a warrior named Prince Adam who, when uttering the magic words, "By the power of Grayskull — I have the power," turned into the heroic He-Man. This updated version will be a "gritty fantasy" that re-imagines Adam as a soldier who sets off to find his destiny, happening upon the magical world of Eternia. There, Skeletor has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating magic. That may sound a bit odd, but apparently it's kind of like "Lord of the Rings and Matrix," as El Mayimbe said last year, which could be pretty damn cool. We'll keep you all updated.

As opposed to the new writer, who wrote and directed "Rusty Forkblade."
I think Warner Bros. should just invent a time machine and go back to the 80s and spy on my elaborate storylines when I was playing with my He-Man action figures. There would also be some franchise crossover potential, as characters from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and the Muppet Babies were involved in the epic battle of good v. evil.

^LOL
The new premise of He-Man reminds me too much of that horrible Masters of the Universe movie from a while back, with the campy sci-fi feel. Hopefully this turns out good.

Don't really understand what WB wants with this crap. If they are gonna dismiss the original story, then why the hell keep the names at all? If they have a new original concept, just do a new movie with their own intellectual property, without altering (possibly ruining) a universe that has been rooted in the imagination of fans for several decades. If they want to take advantage of the fan-base for making a fast profit, then altering the He-Man universe is not the way to go.
Seems another attempt to make profit from reboots/re-imagining that has flooded Hollywood these last few years.
I, for one, don't have any good expectations about this.

I want no Sci-Fi in this, I want a Fantasy all having taken place within Eternia, the original script was awesome, why are they going to fuck it up?

Hey #4, they already ruined He-man with that 80s Dolph Lungren piece of shit that took place mostly on earth and barely touched on Eternia and Castle Grayskull, No BattleCat, Orco etc. So this cant get any worse….Oh wait they are fucking this up too…..Well maybe in another 20-30 years they will do another movie and get it right, until then Fuck you WB, what are you trying to be like FOX now…STICK TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL , IDIOTS !!!
