James Cameron's Avatar Getting Three Month IMAX Run

As Neo would say, whoa! Michael Cieply over at the NY Times is reporting that James Cameron's Avatar will most likely get a three month IMAX run. That means that IMAX is booking it to run for three full months, starting on December 18th, before they switch movies. I don't think I need to explain that IMAX can only run one movie at time - since most theaters only have one IMAX screen. If this isn't yet another indication that almost everyone in the industry is getting very excited for Avatar, then I don't know what else is? I'm sure the best way to see Avatar in 3D will definitely be in IMAX starting this December.
Cieply is saying that the next movie IMAX has lined up after Avatar is Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, also in 3D, which opens on March 5th. IMAX usually only books features for a very short amount of time, since they have to switch out what is showing on their screens, and the studios like their movies to be IMAX as well these days. Cameron's last big feature, Titanic, became the biggest movie ever made because it played in theaters for so long. It opened on December 19th, 1997 and played all the way through to May and June the following year. So are they already predicting that Avatar could be the next Titanic?

I hope it happens to be great movie what everybody is saying people must wait for the movie to come out and then comment if 3d is a gigmick or good enough to make good movie experience to watch it in 3d .I will watch it defenitely at any cost i am a james cameron fan and hope this movie will be good.

I always told my self that I would never fall victim of paying an extra 4 bucks for three Dee, But for this movie, I might just have to break this rule. It's about time they have something to offer in 3D besides my bloody valentines and kids movies. I hope they're big tits that pop in my face, maybe like in total recall, three titties?? eh…eh….

an online trailer will not be good enough to tell whether it looks good or bad in 3d you have to watch it in 3d and then comment and then i will be satisfied to know whether this movie is gonna revolutionary in 3d movies experience i will be watching the trailer in 3d for sure not like some other jackass who will not see the trailer in 3d and say it does not look good

I don't understand the hate on 3D. It looks great! The films I have seen in 3D enhanced the experience and was awesome! Why wouldn't you want to see a film in 3D? Isn't as much realism as possible one of the main reasons you get excited and go to see a film?
The only drawback i see is DVD playing at home. But, really , it looks amazing. The people who are negating 3D obviously haven't seen it. Or maybe what they saw was a crappy rendering of it-which is a shame. What I saw was clean and three dimensional looking imagery that you could almost touch. You realize it's not the red and blue style 3D right? I'm just trying to figure out why anyone wouldn't like it. it's like saying a Ferrari sucks,I'd rather drive a Chevy Nova.
Personally, I'm waiting for video games in 3D.

IMAX is only really for movies with very big budgets, which need all the money they can get to earn back the budget.
Afterall in the U.S alone suprise hits Paul Blart: Mall Cop and The Hangover earnt $146,000,000+ and $183,000,000+ respectively without the need of IMAX screens

those are pretty impressive numbers for low budget comedies (One of which was rated R)
