Jackass Chris Pontius to Join Sofia Coppola's Somewhere
May 21, 2009
by Alex Billington
This is definitely an odd casting choice. We heard about Sofia Coppola's new project Somewhere a few weeks ago, that's about a "bad-boy actor" who gets to re-examine his life after a surprise visit from his 11-year-old daughter. The bum of an actor in the film is camped out at the famous Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood, where this will be set and where it will shoot. Cast as the actor is Stephen Dorff and playing his daughter is Elle Fanning. But how about Dorff's best friend? Coppola has cast Jackass member Chris Pontius as the character Sammy. Will he play a goofball or a straight-edged guy? Only time will tell.
So now we know all about it, who's in it, where it's shooting, but will it be any good? I watched Lost in Translation recently since I hadn't seen it in a long time and I actually still really enjoyed it. I didn't like Coppola's Marie Antoinette, though, but that's more because I'm not fond of period pieces and dainty stories. I'm looking forward to Somewhere because it's sort of taking Sofia Coppola back to her roots, but then again, it's not like a mere two films back was "so far ago" for Coppola. I hope we get to see some more photos from this as soon as it starts shooting, which will be in June and July. Stay tuned for updates!

Oy. I'm not a grammar snob but that was just brutal to read.
