First Real Trailer for Guillermo Arriaga's The Burning Plain

The first international trailer for the directorial debut of 21 Grams screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga has debuted. His film is called The Burning Plain, and similar to Babel, it's an ensemble piece about with a two-tiered storyline concerning a mother and daughter who try to form a bond again later in their lives. I've heard a considerable amount about this film - it played at the Venice, Toronto, Glasgow, and Seattle Film Festivals - but I still haven't ever seen it. I keep passing up opportunities because I've only ever heard mediocre things. But it will be out in theaters in September, so check out the trailer if you so desire.

The Burning Plain is both written and directed by Mexican filmmaker Guillermo Arriaga, who worked with and wrote Alejandro González Iñárritu's trilogy of Amores Perros, 21 Grams, and Babel, as well as the screenplays for The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and The Night Buffalo. The film first premiered at the Venice Film Festival late last year and has played at other major film festivals ever since then. Magnolia Pictures will be bringing The Burning Plain to very limited theaters starting on September 18th this year.

I think the trailer looks good but if you're all ready hearing that it is mediocre than it probably is.

Not a great movie. One plot is completely dropped and while the twist is ok, it is revealed an hour in that when at the end when it is completely spelled out all the tension is gone because everyone knows how it is. Alright for a debut but nothing special and acting is good but not memorable.

This is a very good movie! It somehow shows how we deal with our problems and the pain we can cause to ourself and our family.

I saw this movie at a screening and its one of the best movies I've seen. Its the kind of movie that you will actually like better the second time because so much is happening its hard to keep it straight. It delves deep emotionally and with one wrong turn causes a horrific chain reactionThere isn't a weak link in the cast given the difficult demands of the script. Indeed Oscar Worthy.
