Funny People Has a Viral? First Yo Teach Videos Appear
May 28, 2009

Huh? Apparently there's somewhat of a viral floating around for Judd Apatow's Funny People. Though it's not really a viral, but rather some footage made for the movie that has ended up on YouTube. In the movie, Jason Schwartzman plays a character named Mark, a self-obsessed TV actor who stars on an NBC sitcom called "Yo Teach." He described the show as fitting in between "Dangerous Minds and The Cable Guy" where he plays a teacher who teaches kids who "have been written off by society, but my heart is too big to let that happen." Apparently some early videos from "Yo Teach" have popped up online (via The Playlist).
We've added two of the YouTube videos below. The first one is an EPK video, showing sort of a "behind-the-scenes" look at Mark Taylor Jackson, who is the character Schwartzman plays, and the show. The second one is an actual scene from the show "Yo Teach" and it's pretty awful (at least I wouldn't watch it).
Don't forget, that this show isn't really supposed to be funny, but it's a way of setting up the character Schwartzman plays in Funny People. I really hope either Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill or Adam Sandler slap him around (in the movie, not in real life), because after watching this, that would be great to see.
Schwartzman previously expressed his concern for any of this footage ever appearing in Funny People. "As of now I get a little nervous because it could end up on the cutting room floor or in the trash can on the desktop so to speak. As of now, you do see some 'Yo Teach.'" Now it doesn't really matter if it makes it into the movie or not, because we just got to see some of it anyway. We heard that Apatow's first cut of the movie was 2 hours, 40 minutes, but that now he's trimmed off about 20 minutes, which may have been some of this content. So I'm glad to see it out there now as a bit of a viral. July 31st can't come quick enough.

Yeah, Im gonna take the guess and say that either this is going to be on on TV in the background or that its not going to be in at all.
Getting pumped for Funny People though. Theres still loads of time before 31st July.

That was so cheesy it was actually funny. Now I can't wait to hear the other guys rip him apart for being in such a crappy TV show.
Question: Where did you hear the first cut was 2 hours and 40 minutes and that he's cut out about 20 minutes? I heard Apatow's expecting a runtime closer to 2 and a half hours.

Unfortunately I think that show would do well on network television, and they made it to make fun of it. SIGH
