Eli Roth Reveals the Name of His Sci-Fi - Endangered Species

Eli Roth is a Basterd. Contrary to what you might have heard, Eli Roth is one of the best parts of Inglourious Basterds. But this isn't about that. A month ago, Roth revealed some new details on a set of projects he's working on. One of them is a full-length version of his Grindhouse trailer Thanksgiving, the other was an unnamed PG-13 sci-fi action project that he had been hyping up for a while. At the time, he still wasn't revealing the name, only saying that "when people hear [what the monster is] they are going to be like 'that is going to be insane!'" Well now Empire has revealed the title - Endangered Species.
Roth doesn't reveal much else about Endangered Species that we didn't already know. We do know it's going to be "along the lines of Transformers or Cloverfield, [but a] little more science fiction-based, and with lots of chaos and mass destruction." He does reiterate that he's hoping for a $60 million budget so that "I can really do lots of mass destruction and really destroy lots of shit!" Given the title is Endangered Species, I'm starting to get excited. Anyone else get the feeling that the title is alluding to the fact that we may become the endangered species? Or that some endangered species out there rises up against us?
As for Thanksgiving, Roth explains his plans (again) for shooting it. "But I want to tack on three weeks at the end of it - like, 18 days. The way I did Nation's Pride [the film-within-a-film from Inglourious Basterds], that's how I want to shoot Thanksgiving. I just want to go, go, go. Get as much footage, and as many kills as possible, and not be self-conscious. Because when you're moving at that speed, you're not thinking, you're just feeling and you're going on instinct. And that's where the best stuff comes from." Here's to hoping someone gives him the $60 million he needs soon, because I desperately want to see both of these!

My first thought was that Roth was reviving the Species franchise given the title…I think we all need more monster movies since Cloverfield was more of a tease than an actual film…it clocked in like 40mins of actual monster action in a film that ran only 75mins…

What does transformers and cloverfield have in common? Buildings get destroyed?
Anything sci-fi I get excited for so I can say I'm looking forward to this movie.

Maybe the title has to do with something like giant polar bears causing mass destruction. That would be cool. He did say the creature would be awesome. I just hope that this and Thanksgiving gets made.

Like you Alex as soon as I read the title I thought of us as the endangered species. Not sure if that is good or bad but it seems obvious. I would love to see a film where they don't chicken out and let us win in the end. Make a film where man loses and it looks hopeless at the end. It sets up a sequel just waiting to happen.
