Badass First Trailer for the Pang Brothers' Storm Warriors
May 31, 2009

by Alex Billington
After the dismal debut of Bangkok Dangerous, the Pang Brothers have returned to China for their next film - The Storm Warriors. This is latest their exploration into martial arts - not that they haven't already featured martial arts in their films, but this is a period epic. For those who have forgotten who the Pang Brothers are, they're a directing team out of Hong Kong who brought us the original The Eye in 2002, The Messengers in 2007, a remake of their own film Bangkok Dangerous in 2008, and a handful of other Chinese features. And if you're hesitant about watching this trailer, don't be, it kicks some serious ass.
This reminds me a bit of Kazuaki Kiriya's Goemon, but not as stylized as that. I'd love to check this out, I think it just looks like some badass martial arts fun, despite being from the Pang Brothers. Thoughts?

For more info on the film, check out the official website: thestormwarriors.com
The original cast returns in a sequel to Lau Wai-keung's 1998 The Storm Riders. Wind (Ekin Cheng) and Cloud (Aaron Kwok) find themselves up against a ruthless Japanese warlord intent on invading China.
The Storm Warriors is directed by Hong Kong brothers Oxide and Danny Pang, of the original The Eye, The Tesseract, Re-cycle, The Messengers, and Bangkok Dangerous previously. The screenplay was written by Wing-Shing Ma, who wrote the comic book that the original Storm Riders is based on as well as other comic books like A Man Called Hero. The Storm Warriors is only scheduled to hit theaters in China starting in December of 2009. This film doesn't have a US distributor yet, but we hope to hear more on it soon!

sweet!
A Man Called Hero and Storm Riders are both great movies with some epic fights.
Looks like a good year for these kind of movies, with Goemon coming aswell.
I saw the new trailer for Blood: The Last Vampire in front of Tormented and it looks crazy aswell, plenty of heads being roundhouse kicked off!

What ?
You can see that kind of shit on Japanses cable TV every single day. Cheap CGI with some historic clothing etc etc etc.

I've never really read the comics, but I wasn't really impressed with the first film.
Actors are good, and the graphics are better than before (that's a given).
I'm always down for a martial arts film.

guys this is a Hong Kong comic book adaption like #4 said, nothing to do with goemon or avatar the last air bender or any other stuff like that, that comic has been in published in asia for more than 20 years as far as i know, so i hope the movie lives up to the comic's epic status.
