Must Watch: Awesome New Trailer for Shane Acker's 9

9 Trailer

Not to be confused with Rob Marshall's musical Nine, another awesome new trailer for Shane Acker's animated movie 9 has debuted on G4TV today. We featured the first trailer back in December, then a pretty badass clip in April, so I'm excited to finally have another full trailer. It looks even better than I was expecting - I really can't wait to see this. I may be getting ahead of myself, but I'm really hoping that this brings about a new generation of animation that is edgier, darker, and less family-friendly than before. We'll update this with a high res version when available, but for now check out the glorious new trailer below.

Bruce Willis is Starring in Russell Mulcahy's Grimm?

Grimm - Bruce Willis

So wait, Bruce Willis is starring in a new movie from the guy who directed Resident Evil: Extinction - Russell Mulcahy? Say it ain't so! Our friends at ShockTillYouDrop have debuted the first teaser poster from a project called Grimm, a horror film set in a small Massachusetts town. This is the first we've ever heard about this, and I'm quite shocked to see that they've already lined up Bruce Willis, but that's what the poster says. The story follows a cop who attempts to uncover the truth behind a series of kidnappings and the strange occurrences surrounding them in the town. Newcomer Gene Quintano wrote the script.

Ben Stiller Drops Hints About an Early Zoolander 2 Plot

Zoolander

A lot of people like to dismiss Ben Stiller's classic comedy Zoolander, but I think it's one of the actor's funniest movies. It's certainly the most reminiscent of his early 90's sketch comedy show. And it's definitely got the greatest scene filmed at a gas station ever (and there've been a lot of great gas station scenes throughout cinema). So me and about three other fans are looking forward to Zoolander 2, which Stiller has been teasing us with for many, many years (the original came out in 2001). Finally, in an interview with ScreenRush, he revealed some (un)likely plot details on the sequel, which still sounds a long way off.

Sam Raimi Opens Up About Spider-Man, Past and Present

Sam Raimi

Writer/director Sam Raimi is traveling the world right now (he'll be in Cannes tomorrow), talking to press about his newest throwback to classic horror, Drag Me to Hell. But of course, most of the press are going to focus on Spider-Man 4, of which he has no major updates on. While there is some news on it, like that it will start shooting in February of 2010, the most interesting story from Raimi this week comes from Hero Complex. LA Times' Geoff Boucher talks with Raimi about Spider-Man, but focuses more on the past than the future, with Raimi reflecting a bit on how he could improve and why he made the choices he did.

Casting Updates on Mimi Leder's Mandrake the Magician

Mandrake the Magician

Where has this project been hiding? ComingSoon has announced the official cast for MGM's Mandrake the Magician, based on Lee Falk's comic strip. Early last year, Jonathan Rhys Meyers had apparently been cast as Mandrake, but now the role will go to Hayden Christensen, with Djimon Hounsou joining in as a supporting character. The film is being co-written by Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, JV Hart, and Ian Jeffers. Mimi Leder, of The Peacemaker, Deep Impact, and Pay It Forward most recently, will direct. So does this mean Mandrake will finally move into production sometime later this year?

DreamWorks to Produce New Martin Luther King Jr. Biopic

Martin Luther King Jr.

It's been more than 30 years since Abby Mann's Emmy-winning miniseries King, so it's about time someone made a feature biopic about Martin Luther King Jr., right? That someone just so happens to be Steven Spielberg, who will produce such a film for DreamWorks, along with Oscar-winning screenwriter Suzanne de Passe (Lady Sings the Blues) and her Humpty Dumpty co-producer Madison Jones. Though MLK has appeared as a character in many films since his assassination in 1968, this is apparently the first to be approved by King's estate, meaning it will have access to all of the civil rights leader's intellectual property.

John Cameron Mitchell Updates 'Rabbit Hole' Adaptation

John Cameron Mitchell

If you're a fan of either Nicole Kidman or Aaron Eckhart or John Cameron Mitchell, then you're probably familiar with the film Rabbit Hole. Otherwise, it's just another project in development that you won't care about until it has a trailer or shows at a festival. I would say the same, but then writer/director John Cameron Mitchell recently talked with ScreenDaily (via The Playlist) about working on the film. Rabbit Hole is an adaptation of David Lindsay-Abaire's stage play and the script, also written by Lindsay-Abaire, completely moved Mitchell. "I was incredibly moved, I was laughing throughout, I felt healed by it."

Derrick Comedy's Mystery Team Picked Up by Roadside!

Mystery Team

It's coming to theaters! The first feature film from the YouTube comedy team Derrick Comedy, titled Mystery Team, has been officially picked up by indie distributor Roadside Attractions. The group will embark on an innovative advance-release tour to colleges in the late summer, to be followed by a nationwide theatrical release this fall. Those who have been following this film know that it first premiered at Sundance earlier this year to plenty of great reviews (including my own) but wasn't picked up during the fest. It may have taken a few months, but they've now got a distributor and best of all, it'll be shown in theaters!

Rumor: Sharon Stone Joining Quentin Tarantino's Weekend?

Sharon Stone

Wait just a minute! On the eve of the world premiere of Tarantino's newest film, which took years to pull together, a rumor hits about another never-heard-of project? Of all the places for this to come from, it's Variety, where they say (without confirmation) that Sharon Stone is potentially involved in a new project called Weekend to be directed by Quentin Tarantino. In addition to Stone, it will also star Jessica Biel, Lucy Liu, Dennis Hopper and Michael Madsen and it will film in Serbia. Has anyone ever heard about this before? Does Tarantino really have a new project lined up? Or is this just an early rumor gone too far?

George Clooney to Star in Corbijn's Very Private Gentleman

A Very Private Gentleman - George Clooney

A few days ago we wrote about the news that photographer Anton Corbijn would direct his second feature film, an adaptation of Martin Booth's hitman novel A Very Private Gentleman. Variety has published a Cannes update on George Clooney today that includes two bits of good news. First off, Clooney has joined and will star in A Very Private Gentleman for Corbijn. No other casting for the project was announced. Secondly, his other film which shot last year, the Grant Heslov-directed war comedy Men Who Stare at Goats, was picked up by Overture Films. Clooney will shoot A Very Private Gentleman in Italy this fall.

Must Watch: First Trailer for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes!

Sherlock Holmes Trailer

We've been waiting to see this and it's finally here - take a look at Guy Ritchie's version of Sherlock Holmes, as lead by Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Yahoo has debuted the first trailer, which will also be showing in front of Terminator Salvation this week. This actually looks a lot better than I remember from ShoWest. I really love the style and the action and intensity. I think they really ramped up the excitement and pulled out some of the comedy, which makes it a great fit for all those who are seeing Terminator this weekend. Anyway, I think I've said enough. Just fire this trailer up and let us know what you think!
