Where Are All the Stars - Tom Hiddleston Also Joins Thor?

Tom Hiddleston

I'm starting to get a bit worried. Not that Thor won't have some good performances - I actually expect better performances out of no name actors - but that the cast is filling up with a bunch of unknowns. A few days ago, it was confirmed that Chris Hemsworth, who is most well known for playing George Kirk in Star Trek, had been cast as Thor. Now Nikki Finke is reporting that British actor Tom Hiddleston has been cast as Loki, the villain in the film and Thor's half-brother nemesis. It seems like it could it might be good casting (I've never seen Hemsworth in anything), but how are they going to sell this as a summer movie?

First Look: Sam Worthington as Perseus in Clash of the Titans

Sam Worthington as Perseus in Clash of the Titans

Now this is something we've been waiting for! CraveOnline has scored the first few paparazzi spy shots of Sam Worthington shooting on the set of Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans. Worthington plays the lead character Perseus, who embarks on a dangerous mission to defeat Hades, the vengeful god of the underworld. A few weeks ago some boring photos of a set under construction popped up, but these are the first photos we've seen of any actor in costume. And yes, I realize Worthington is wearing a tunic, but it's actually slightly longer than the one Harry Hamlin wore as Perseus in the original Clash of the Titans.

Rumor: Mad Max 4 is Live Action, Scouting Locations Now?

Mad Max

A few months ago, I caught back-to-back-to-back showings of all three Mad Max films, which I had never seen before. It was quite an experience and I have since become a fan of, well, all three of them, although I prefer Road Warrior the most. One thing in particular that I noticed is that all three of the films are vastly different from each other. The craziest of all of them is Beyond Thunderdome, which is just a wild adventure that makes no sense and doesn't end the series that well. We've been hearing rumors for a while now about a Mad Max 4 from George Miller and The Herald Sun newspaper in Australia claims to have an update.

Cannes 2009 Video Blog: Tour of the Palais des Festival!

2009 Cannes Film Festival

I'm back again live from Cannes, this time with a tour of the Palais des Festival, the Cannes headquarters where the famous Grand Théâtre Lumière is located, and where I work out of most of the days in the press room. A few days ago I put up my first video blog featuring a chat with Sperling Reich, and I expect to have another one in the next few days talking about the last few films I've seen. But today I just wanted to show those of you who aren't here, like my friends at other websites, what it's like to be working in Cannes, including how the press boxes work and how crowded the press room always is. Enjoy this latest video!

First Look: Jim Carrey as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol

First Look: Jim Carrey as Scrooge in Disney's A Christmas Carol

Okay, technically speaking, this isn't our very first look at Jim Carrey in this, since we featured the poster with him on it last week, but it is the first official photo. Disney has released the following photo from Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol, showing Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge encountering a ghost. The trailer is set to debut by the end of this month sometime, and will most likely show in front of Pixar's Up starting on May 29th. One new photo isn't going to make me excited, I'm waiting for some actual footage. Stay tuned for more updates and the trailer for Disney's A Christmas Carol coming in the next few weeks!

Early Teaser Trailer for Jacques Audiard's Un Prophete

Jacques Audiard's Un Prophete

One of my favorite films of Cannes finally has a teaser trailer. Jacques Audiard's latest feature, Un Prophete, debuted last week at the festival to nothing but heaps of praise. I absolutely loved it and gave it a 9 out of 10 in my own review. Thanks to our friends at Quiet Earth, we have the first teaser trailer for Un Prophete today. This gives everyone who is not at Cannes a first look at Tahar Rahim as El Djebena, Niels Arestrup as César, and the amazing score from Alexandre Desplat. There isn't a more perfect teaser than this and I hope some of you watch this teaser, and only this teaser, before actually seeing the film itself.

Sony and Regal Cinemas Announce 4K Digital Projection Pact

Sony 4K projector

Are you aware that your local multiplex likely doesn't feature the very best in digital projection? That's right, most cinemas in this country are using 2K resolution projectors, which don't quite measure up to the look of film. But fortunately, Regal Entertainment Group is about to advance to the next level in digital cinema by equipping about 550 of its movie theaters with Sony's high end 4K resolution projectors, which obviously look twice as good as the 2K variety. According to the Hollywood Reporter, these projectors will be installed into a minimum of around 5,000 screens over the next three to five years in Regal theaters.

First Hilarious TV Spot for Judd Apatow's Funny People

Funny People TV Spot

There's not much that makes me laugh these days, but I laughed my ass off watching this. The very first TV spot for Judd Apatow's Funny People has aired and we have it for you below. I love all of the crazy t-shirts everyone is wearing in this, like the one Jason Schwartzman has on in one scene that says "Who writes this stuff?" and the one Seth Rogen has on with the Superman symbol inside of the Star of David. There's a lot of new footage we haven't seen in the trailer in this TV spot and it all looks incredible. I'm very excited for this and I have a good feeling that it could end up my favorite movie of the summer, but that is yet to be seen.

Dustin Lance Black Directing What's Wrong With Virginia

Dustin Lance Black

Oscar winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (who wrote Gus Van Sant's Milk) will be making his directorial debut with a film called What's Wrong With Virginia. Variety has announced that Liam Neeson and Jennifer Connelly will star in drama. The script, also written by Lance Black, sees Connelly playing a charming but psychologically disturbed mother of a 16-year-old son. Her 20-year clandestine love with a sheriff (Neeson), who is running for the state senate, is tested when her son begins a relationship with his daughter. Shooting will start in Holland, MI in late summer, with Tick Tock Studios financing.

Bradley Cooper Cast in A-Team, But Not Green Lantern?

Bradley Cooper

Over the weekend, a handful of press got to chat with Bradley Cooper, who stars in the summer comedy The Hangover. Of course, the first question he was asked was whether that Green Lantern casting news from a few weeks back had any legitimacy. Unfortunately, Cooper claims that was all just an internet rumor, but who knows whether he's just playing coy for now until it gets solidified. However, our friends at IESB did get Cooper to confirm another different casting rumor - he'll be playing Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck aka Face in Joe Carnahan's A-Team movie alongside of Common, who will be playing B.A. Baracus.

Universal Hires Peter Berg to Direct Their Battleship Movie

Battleship

Another day, another board game movie. Universal is adapting the Milton Bradley board game Battleship and has hired Peter Berg (The Rundown, The Kingdom, Hancock) to direct. Wow. Can anyone else believe this? Universal has a deal with Hasbro and has been setting up huge projects based on various board games like Monopoly and Candyland previously, but now Battleship? Brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber (of only the upcoming Whiteout so far) will write the script. The game will, obviously, be turned into an epic naval action adventure movie. Now I can use this pun properly - Peter Berg has "sunk" to a new low today.

Well, Now We Know What the Tomorrowland Movie is About

Tomorrowland

Remember the news that Disney is turning their theme park area Tomorrowland into yet another Disneyland-based movie? Well, Collider has gotten the scoop on the plot, and it sounds pretty familiar. It also sounds, not surprisingly, like a total cash-in. During a junket for The Hangover, writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore described their script for the Tomorrowland project as "Pirates of the Caribbean in space." That's what Disney wants it to be known as, anyway. Obviously they don't want us to think of it as Country Bears in space or Haunted Mansion in space, because both of those movies didn't do so well.
