Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim Video Blog - Comics to Screen

Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim Video Blog - From Comics to Screen

We've been slacking off on keeping up with the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World video blogs, but that's because I hope by now if you're interested in following them, you're already doing so on your own. But there is a new one posted yesterday, the fifth one, that's about adapting the comics into a movie - From Comic Book Panel to Screen. Being a very big fan of Bryan Lee O'Malley's comics that this is based on, it's a great behind-the-scenes video addressing the comics themselves and Edgar Wright's translation, especially this early on. We also get introduced to Ellen Wong, who plays Knives Chau, in this video and a bit more.

The Brothers Bloom

If you live in New York or Los Angeles, then go see The Brothers Bloom today! It's currently playing in theaters this weekend in some of the finest cinemas in both cities. And starting the following weekend it'll be opening up in 17 more cities (you can find a full listing on their official website). I really can't say enough good things about this movie and it needs all the love and support it can get! In honor of its opening today, director Rian Johnson has sent over a few exclusive sketches that come from straight from the pages of Stephen Bloom's notebook - you'll know what that means once you've actually seen it (hint, hint). Enjoy!

Cannes 2009 Review: Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock

Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock

I'm not a child of the 60's, and I wasn't around when Woodstock took place in 1969, so I have a lot to learn and a lot to appreciate regarding the three-day long concert. That said, Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock is less about the concert itself, and more about Elliot Tiber (Demetri Martin), a White Plains, New York local who could be held responsible for helping pull off such a successful event. Ang Lee's take on this story isn't all rock 'n roll, it's a lot more subtle, but it's still an intriguing story and I still enjoyed watching it play out. It's a much more muted look at the concert that changed the world than any studio would've probably liked.

Creepy Poster Art for David Ellis' Humpty Dumpty Movie

Humpty Dumpty

In the American south, in a swamp, something was born... Remember a few weeks ago, we wrote about a new project called Humpty Dumpty that Snakes on a Plane director David R. Ellis was attached to direct? Well, we now have some early poster art for it (thanks to ShockTillYouDrop), which gives us one hell of a creepy look at what we can expect. Here's the f'd up synopsis for Humpty Dumpty again: When an alien mother is "abused" by two rednecks in the deep south, she gives birth to a a half-human, half-alien creature that eventually goes on a murderous rampage. Yea, now you remember, right? Take a look at this...

Sound Off: Angels and Demons - What Did You Think?

Angels & Demons

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Dan Brown. Tom Hanks. Ron Howard. That's one hell of a trio right? Angels & Demons has arrived, three years after the very same people brought us The Da Vinci Code, and it's time to size this one up. It's officially a prequel, although Sony is calling it a sequel, even though was written and published before Da Vinci Code. But is this any better? Have they finally perfected Dan Brown's stories for the big screen? Or is it as boring and way too literal of an adaptation, like Da Vinci Code? Sound off below, leave your thoughts, and let us know what you thought of Angels & Demons!

Brand New US Trailer for Armando Iannucci's In the Loop

In the Loop Trailer

Even though you may not be the biggest fan of British films, there is one coming out soon that I have a feeling most of you will want to see. In the Loop is sort of "The Office" meets British politics. A brand new US trailer from IFC has debuted over on FunnyorDie.com today. The film debuted at Sundance earlier this year and has been receiving considerably positive reviews. We previously featured a trailer for In the Loop a few months ago, but this one is catered a bit more to American audiences. I'm not expecting it to be a big hit, but those of you find this funny should definitely make an effort to see it in theaters this July.

Don't Watch: Stan Bush's 'The Touch' Transformers 2 Version

Stan Bush's The Touch

Those of you who are hardcore Transformers fans are more than familiar with the classic (dare I call it that?) Stan Bush song "The Touch" that is featured in The Transformers: The Movie from 1986. It was, uh, great at the time, or at least, it was hilariously awful and so cheesy that it could be an easy replacement for Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up." Worst of all, for no good reason, Stan Bush is back and he has remade "The Touch" for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Please don't tell me this song is in the movie at all?! I can actually listen to the original 1986 "The Touch", but this remake, wow, this is just awful!

Mysterious New Spanish Project from The Orphanage Duo

Juan Antonio Bayona

Juan Antonio Bayona and Sergio Sanchez, the director and screenwriter of The Orphanage, are reteaming on what looks set to be Bayona's second film, according to Variety. The project doesn't have a title yet, or at least not publicly, but is a "powerful story, based on true facts, which poses large technical challenges." That's a bit vague. "The film looks absolutely unique," says Telecinco Cinema CEO Ghislain Barrois. Apparently Bayona spent months working on the screenplay and the film's visual design before he was approached to direct the third Twilight film for Summit, a job that eventually went to David Slade.

Magnet Will Be Bringing John Woo's Red Cliff to US Theaters

John Woo's Red Cliff

Announced at Cannes, Magnet Releasing, the genre label of Magnolia Pictures, will be distributing John Woo's two-part military epic Red Cliff in US theaters. The film already premiered in China last summer, but is being planned for a theatrical, VOD, and eventual DVD release in the US this fall. Magnet previously released Let the Right One In, Timecrimes, and Donkey Punch last year as part of the 6-Shooter Film Series. Apparently the theatrical version of the film will be combined into one two-and-a-half hour film, although it will be split for its DVD release. Red Cliff only played at the Tokyo Film Festival, but no other film fests.

First Look: Chow Yun-Fat as Confucius in Hu Mei's Biopic

Chow Yun-Fat as Confucius

It was only March when we first announced that Chow Yun-Fat was going to play Confucius in a Chinese biopic titled Confucius. Being a big fan of Chow Yun-Fat, I was immediately interested, and have been anxious to see something or hear more about the production. Thanks to Sina (via Twitch) we have some first photos of Chow Yun-Fat in the film. Coincidentally, I got a shot of the Confucius poster on display in the Film Market at Cannes, so I thought I'd throw both of these together today. It looks a lot more epic than I was imagining (especially with a rumored $3 million budget) and that is definitely a good thing. Enjoy!

Kevin Smith Working on Hockey Movie 'Hit Somebody'

Kevin Smith

Like it or not, Kevin Smith is still going strong, even if Zack and Miri wasn't exactly the biggest hit. Not only is he lined up to direct A Couple of Dicks later this year, but he's entertaining the idea of a hockey movie, too. Oddly, it's based on the Warren Zevon song "Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)" - which you can listen to here. As Smith explains, the song is "about a goon, a hockey goon. It's this very wonderful, soaring, moving story that's also bittersweet and very, very funny, about a hockey player who just wants to play hockey, who loves hockey so much, but just sucks at it." A Kevin Smith sports movie? Hell yes, bring it on!

Mickey Rourke Joins Larry Clark's Remake of Mona Lisa

Mickey Rourke

Mickey Rourke as Mona Lisa? No, that's not right. Mickey Rourke in Mona Lisa - that sounds a bit better. Rourke has signed on to star in a remake of the classic 1980s British gangster flick Mona Lisa. He'll play an ex-con who takes a job as a chauffeur for a high-class escort. Eva Green is in early negotiations to star opposite Rourke. Larry Clark, of Kids, Bully, Wassup Rockers, is writing and directing the remake, which is being produced by Handmade Films. Shooting is set to start in New York in July. This is yet another one of the many projects that Rourke has lined up following all the acclaim he received in The Wrestler.
