Finally High Res Real Poster Art for The Expendables
This may not be the very first time you've seen this poster - and that's because Lionsgate has been sending around some fake photos of banners on display at Cannes. The photos show an entire hotel covered with posters for The Expendables, but it's all a bunch of BS. There is not a single actual Expendables banner anywhere on the Croisette, I know that for sure because I'm there. But the poster below is real, and the character posters below that are also real (as far as I know). We've been posting a lot of Expendables content recently, so I'm trying to keep it short this time. I will say this looks pretty good, for now, so check it out.

Must Watch: John Hillcoat's The Road Finally Gets a Trailer!
After nearly endless delays, The Weinstein Company has finally debuted the trailer for The Road, the highly anticipated adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's post-apocalyptic novel. Even though I had already built up some huge expectations, this looks even better than I thought it would. Now we know what the Weinsteins have been hiding all this time! This also looks a lot more epic than I was expecting, which makes me wonder if TWC spent all this extra time gathering up some additional funds to add some new visual effects. Who knows? Either way, this is now one of my most highly anticipated non-summer films this year.

Cannes 2009 Review: Park Chan-wook's Thirst
Let's make it clear that before I start this, I am indeed a fan of Park Chan-wook and his past films, specifically the Vengeance trilogy. For his latest film, Chan-wook has decided to explore the vampire "genre," or at least explore the idea of vampirism. And considering it is Chan-wook, that means we're going to see something much crazier than we would otherwise ever expect, and that is indeed the case with Thirst. Officially, it was the third film I watched here at Cannes, and besides Pixar's Up, it's the best live-action film I've seen so far (that also includes Francis Ford Coppola's Tetro, which was only okay).

Terry Gilliam Moves Forward with Don Quixote, Take Two
Even if Terry Gilliam wasn't my all-time favorite filmmaker, Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe's Lost in La Mancha, which focuses on Gilliam's doomed, never-completed film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, would still be one of the saddest documentaries I've ever seen. Fortunately, though, their story now has a happy ending, at least off screen, because Gilliam is officially on track for another go at helming the infamous project, as reported by Variety. Back in January, we learned that the director had finally regained the rights and that he and original screenwriter Tony Grisoni were working on a new version of the script.

How About Johnny Depp for Martin Scorsese's Sinatra?
Earlier today we ran the rather exciting story about Martin Scorsese agreeing to direct the Frank Sinatra biopic to be called just Sinatra for Universal. It's certainly great to hear that Marty is on board to direct, and Phil Alden Robinson is on board to write the script, but this project just needs some more A-list talent to be perfect. So how about Johnny Depp for the role of Frank Sinatra? While Scorsese wants Leonardo DiCaprio (as always), Universal is pushing for Depp, according to Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood. Plus, as she reiterates, "it's already been determined that the lead actor playing Sinatra won't be singing."

Oh No, MGM Might Snatch Up the Rights to Terminator 5?
This is not good news - I'm going to tell you that right up front. Variety is reporting that the rights to Terminator 5, the sequel to McG's Terminator Salvation, may end up reverting back to MGM. The studio has a 30-day right of first refusal to finance and distribute the fifth Terminator film, a right earned through a settlement of a lawsuit between the studio and The Halcyon Company, who owns the franchise rights to Terminator. Apparently MGM has every intention of making a bid for the franchise, stealing it right out from under Warner Brothers, who is distributing in the US, and Sony, who is distributing internationally.

First Official Trailer for Rob Marshall's New Musical Nine
Not to be confused with Shane Acker's animated film 9, The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for Rob Marshall's Nine, a musical based on Fellini's 8½. This first premiered on Broadway in 1982 and is just now being adapted, much like Chicago, which was Rob Marshall's other huge success. Although this has a stellar cast - Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren - it's just not my cup of tea, sorry to say. I really hated Chicago (I don't care if it won the Oscar) and this feels much too similar to that film. I love Daniel Day-Lewis, but count me out this time.

Abel Ferrara Readying Another Jekyll and Hyde Movie?
You've got to be kidding me? Of course, this happens all the time in Hollywood, but still, why this story? Bad Lieutenant director Abel Ferrara is also adapting Robert Louis Stevenson's The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Forest Whitaker and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson already set to star. Just last week we announced that Keanu Reeves was set to star in Universal's re-imagining of the same story, with Nicolas Winding Refn set to direct. These two projects will be competing against each other, as Glasshouse Pictures and Cheetah Vision Films are already prepared to start shooting this one later this summer.

Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol Official Poster Revealed
Now this looks a little bit familiar, doesn't it? Disney has finally debuted the official poster for Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol over on Yahoo today, with the trailer set to hit sometime by the end of May. We posted some photos of this exact poster on display at Cannes earlier this week. For those not expecting to see Jim Carrey looking that old and decrepit as Ebenezer Scrooge, this may be a bit of a surprise. But for everyone else, we've come to expect such madness from Zemeckis and his CGI characters, so it's nothing new. That said, check out the new poster below and stay tuned for the trailer, as it should be coming soon!

StudioCanal Rebooting Sylvester Stallone's Cliffhanger
Another day, another remake. The French production company StudioCanal has announced that they'll be working with producer Neal Moritz's Original Films to reboot Cliffhanger. Last year we reported a rumor about a Cliffhanger sequel being developed with Stallone, but that eventually turned out to be just BS. However, StudioCanal is completely set on rebooting this one from scratch. "Just as they rebooted Star Trek, we're going to do the same with Cliffhanger," said Moritz, who will produce. Unlike the original, where Italy stood in for the Colorado Rockies, the new redo looks set to feature multiple cliff-face locations.

Martin Scorsese Directing Family-Approved Frank Sinatra Biopic
After years of negotiations with Frank Sinatra Enterprises, Universal will finally be moving forward on the biopic Sinatra. The screenplay was written by Field of Dreams screenwriter Phil Alden Robinson, and as announced today, the prolific Martin Scorsese will direct. The film is already being compared to Todd Haynes' 2007 Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, at least in style and structure. "It'll be almost like a collage," producer Cathy Schulman said. "In the way one of his records captures different rhythms and moods, this will have collective scenes and moments that form the overall story as opposed to a conventional timeline."

Kevin Spacey to Play George Hickenlooper's Casino Jack
Kevin Spacey is set to return to true story-based films as he takes on the role of Jack Abramoff in Casino Jack. Abramoff, a name you've most certainly heard around the news circuit (or, more likely, on The Daily Show), is the disgraced Washington power broker and notorious con man who is currently serving a prison sentence. His life is to be the focus of the Norman Snider-scripted film. More specifically, Abramoff's bribery schemes and fraudulent affairs with Native American casinos that landed him in prison will provide the meat of the film. Dogtown and Factory Girl director George Hickenlooper will be directing this.
