Does Tarantino Have More Basterds Tricks Up His Sleeves?
With Inglourious Basterds premiering on May 20th at Cannes next week, more mainstream press coverage has been starting to appear all over the place. Over at the NY Times in particular, they've got a set visit feature, delving further into the production and Quentin Tarantino's crazy mind. But at the very end, they say something very interesting. It reads: "Not to mention a shelved subplot about African-American soldiers stuck behind enemy lines. 'I have a half-written prequel ready to go if this movie's a smash,' he said." Whoa, wait a minute, Tarantino's got a prequel already ready to go? What exactly is this all about?

Antonio Banderas Set to Star in Tony Krantz' The Big Bang
Not to be confused with the sitcom "The Big Bang Theory", the indie project The Big Bang has found its leading man - Antonio Banderas. Banderas will star as an LA private detective who's hired to find a missing stripper. The trail leads to the New Mexico desert, where he finds a trail of bodies and contends with a brutal Russian boxer, three LAPD detectives and an aging billionaire looking to perfect the nuclear physics equivalent of the Big Bang. Whoa that sounds nuts! The script was written by Erik Jendresen ("Band of Brothers", Otis). Former Hollywood agent Tony Krantz will be making his directorial debut with this.

First Official Trailer for Disney's Princess and the Frog
The classic hand drawn Disney is back! The very first full trailer for Disney's return to hand animation, The Princess and the Frog, has debuted via YouTube (via SlashFilm). I've been waiting forever to finally see a trailer for this, primarily because I've got incredibly high hopes that it could be another Disney classic, and I'm excited to finally see some finished footage! I feel like this kind of wonderful animation has such an important place in our cinematic world (the last hand animated film was Home on the Range in 2004). It may seem a bit goofy in spots, but that's the exact Disney charm that I'm excited to see new once again!

Must Watch: Badass Trailer for Isaac Florentine's Ninja
While we're waiting for Warner Brothers to release the first trailer for James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin, our friends on the web have dug up one of the most badass trailers for another ninja movie that we didn't know even know existed. This one is simply called just Ninja and the trailer for it kicks some serious ass. This stars Scott Adkins, a stunt actor who physically played Weapon XI in the recent X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Sure, it may not be as polished as a Hollywood movie, but it still looks pretty damn fun, to say the least, and I can't wait to see it. The trailer takes a little while to get going, but by the end it kicks ass!

Apple Store Appearances - Directors Rian Johnson and McG
Those of you who are Apple users (or just tech savvy individuals) are probably already familiar with this on-going series that Apple runs. But if not, every once in a while, Apple brings filmmakers to their stores for a presentation and chat. They've previously hosted Zack Snyder for Watchmen and plenty of other great filmmakers. Appearing next week will be Rian Johnson from The Brothers Bloom as well as McG from Terminator Salvation. Johnson will be at the SoHo Apple Store in New York City, and McG will be at the Third Street Apple Store in Santa Monica. I've heard these are always great experiences, so check them out.

Very First TV Spot for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Even though we've seen an excessive number of trailers, including an awesome final theatrical trailer, for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, it's still exciting to see this first TV spot. Not only does it mean that it's finally coming soon, but it also just looks great, and it's one of the movies I'm most excited to see this summer. Though I'm curious, is anyone worried about the comedy in this? Obviously that kind of comedy is a part of the Harry Potter series, but I'm worried that there'll be too much of that and not enough of the dark story and wizard action. We'll find out soon enough. But for now, I'm still incredibly excited.

Alex is Headed to the Cannes Film Festival - Vive la France!
I've been dropping hints about this for a while, but this is the official announcement. I'm currently on my way to the airport to catch a flight to France, then a train to the French Riviera, where I'll be attending the world famous Cannes Film Festival. I'll be covering the full festival - May 13th to May 24th - and will be writing reviews and providing all the normal festival coverage (like I do at Sundance). Additionally, I'll be doing my very best to cover all the daily news, however with time difference (9 hours) and with the schedule at Cannes, updates might be a bit sporadic. If I'm late on getting something posted, now you know why!

Beautiful New Photos from Alejandro Amenábar's Agora
More new photos today from a Cannes Film Festival film. Alejandro Amenábar's Agora will be premiering at Cannes in the next few weeks. Rachel Weisz stars as the famous female philosophy professor and atheist Hypatia. The story follows Max Minghella as her slave Davus, who turns to the rising tide of Christianity in the hopes of pursuing freedom while also falling in love with his master. These new photos come from the blog D*Hollywood and are a great addition to the early teaser trailer we featured in February as well as just great photos to look at. I definitely can't wait to see this at Cannes, as I got a feeling it could be incredible.

Could Common Be Cast as the A-Team's B.A. Baracus?
Yet another casting rumor to keep things exciting this weekend. IESB is reporting that Common is Fox's top choice to play B.A. Baracus in their upcoming A-Team movie. As a potentially painful reminder, Mr. T played Baracus on the original show. Late last year, we were hearing that it could've been Tyrese Gibson who was going to play Baracus. But that was before director John Singleton left the project and Smokin' Joe Carnahan stepped in to replace him. Common did say that it "would be an incredible character to play" in an interview with IESB, however he didn't completely confirm (or deny) the rumor. But will it even get made?

Rumor: James McTeigue to Direct Lionsgate's Conan Movie?!
Whoa, wait a minute! Just two days ago we reported that Brett Ratner was officially off of Conan. Good news, considering no one wants him to ruin any more movies. But producer Joe Gatta only said that "we're currently in the process of hiring a director," without hinting at who. Well, CHUD claims to have heard from a trusted source that the director they're going after is none other than James McTeigue, the brilliant Australian filmmaker behind V for Vendetta and the upcoming Ninja Assassin. We've heard of directors like Rob Zombie and Xavier Gens previously, but no one of this caliber! They can't be serious, can they?

Writers Guild Hosting An Evening with Kurtzman and Orci
Now that almost everyone has seen J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, it's time to start picking apart the plot and criticizing every last detail. Or maybe it's just time to praise everyone involved and usher in a new generation of Star Trek that I know I can't wait to see continue on. Whatever side it may be that you fall on, the Writers Guild Foundation is hosting An Evening with Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci, the screenwriters of Star Trek as well as the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, on May 26th. The event is simply a Q&A with Bob and Alex that will be moderated by fellow screenwriter Paul Attanasio.

Michael Myers's Gets Some Face Time on New H2 Poster
The Weinstein Company has debuted a new poster for Rob Zombie's H2: Halloween 2 today. This is the second official teaser poster, as we already debuted an early one back in December. I'm going to make a risky prediction: Halloween 2 will flop. I know it's way too early to say something like that, and I hate doing it, but I've got a feeling their marketing is just going to fall apart and no one will want to see this in the end. I have nothing against this poster, I actually like the blue tinge to it and the big, bold design, but I'm just not feeling any excitement for this. If you think there is some buzz, then prove me wrong, I'd love to hear it!
