indieWIRE's Best of Cannes Winners and RT's Top 10 Films
As part of my wrap-up on the Cannes Film Festival, I wanted to feature two great articles found around the web today. The first is indieWIRE's Best of Cannes, a list of the best films, best actors, best directors, and worst films from this year, as ranked by critics and bloggers. A group of sixteen people (including me) were polled by indieWIRE and they've comprised the three films in each category with the most votes. The big winner is Un Prophete, which is still my favorite film of the fest. Additionally, Rotten Tomatoes has a great feature looking at the 10 Must-See Movies coming out of the fest. Both lists have some great picks.

Breck Eisner Drops Out of Creature from the Black Lagoon
Universal's remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon that we've been following for a while now has hit a snag. According to Bloody Disgusting, director Breck Eisner has dropped out of the project. Eisner is currently finishing up The Crazies remake for Overture Films and also is attached to the Flash Gordon reboot. It was first rumored that he might be off of the project last December, however, BD only received official confirmation very recently. Oddly, back in April, Eisner spoke with Arrow in the Head about his plans for the remake without any indication that might be leaving, so we're not sure why he left.

Jake Kasdan to Direct Sony's Bad Teacher Comedy
Columbia Pictures has hired Jake Kasdan to direct the comedy Bad Teacher co-written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (writers on "The Office" as well as the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel). The screenplay centers on a foul-mouthed seventh grade teacher who is dumped by her sugar daddy. She starts to pursue a colleague instead, which provokes a conflict with the school's model teacher, who is after the same guy. Kasdan wrote and directed Zero Effect and The TV Set and also directed Judd Apatow's Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story for the same studio back in 2007. This should be a good fit for Kasdan.

First Video of the Saw VI Cast Talking About the Movie
We haven't talked about Saw VI since, well, last year before even Saw V came out. Of course, as we get closer to October, when the next Saw installment is always going to be due, Lionsgate is starting up their big marketing machine in hopes of making it as successful as the five previous movies. Saw VI stars Tobin Bell, as always, Shawnee Smith, back as Amanda, Costas Mandylor as Mark Hoffman again, and a handful of a bunch of new actors. Kevin Greutert, who has edited all five of the previous Saw movies, is making his directorial debut with Saw VI. Read on to see the Maple Pictures interview video with the cast of Saw VI.

Did You Know That Tom McCarthy Helped Write Pixar's Up?
I wasn't the only one who noticed something strange in the opening credits for Pixar's Up when I saw it a few weeks ago - Tom McCarthy was credited as a screenwriter along with Bob Peterson. McCarthy, who is also an actor, is probably best known for writing and directing both The Station Agent and The Visitor from last year. He's a great writer and it's very cool to see Pixar reaching out to people outside of their own studio to help work on their movies. Plus, I think his involvement can definitely be felt in the movie, as the story in Up is truly wonderful. SlashFilm has a few more details on how this collaboration first came together.

Flashy New International Poster for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra
Fire and ice? Or just Cobra vs Joe? Empire has debuted a new international poster for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra featuring an ensemble collection of characters from both sides. It's actually not that bad - I kind of like the look of it. At least it's better than the floating heads designs we see all too often or even the final Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen poster (which I just hate). This movie is probably going to be terribly cheesy and pretty awful in the end, sadly, but at least it has a cool poster. And don't forget, this is just the international poster, and the official US one probably won't look as good. Take a look at it below.

First Look: Scruffy Denzel Washington in The Book of Eli
Finally, some official photos from the post-apocalyptic western The Book of Eli have arrived courtesy of USA Today. Sure, we've seen an early poster, some on-set photos, and even a video featurette, but these are the first official photos from Warner Brothers feature being directed by the Hughes Brothers. The best way to introduce this is why the caption for that black and white photo at the top: "Eli's iPod has run out of juice and to the right is the road that leads into Carnagio's town. Eli makes the decision to go in to town, power up his iPod and refill his canteen." And that's where it all begins. Check out the four new photos below.

Rogen, Bateman, Wiig, and Hader Join Greg Mottola's Paul
The cast for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's geek alien road trip comedy Paul has grown by five today. Seth Rogen, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Jane Lynch have all joined the cast. Though Rogen won't be seen in the movie, as he will be voicing the alien that the two encounter. Pegg and Frost, who wrote the script, will play two science-fiction fanatics on a road trip to Comic-Con whose conspiracy dreams come true when they trek to Area 51 and encounter an escaped alien named Paul. As was announced last year, Superbad and Adventureland director Greg Mottola will be directing. The movie starts shooting in June.

Producer Dan Lin Talks About Lara Croft Origins Details
Back in January, Warner Brothers announced that they were bringing back Lara Croft in a reboot. But it wouldn't be anything like the Angelina Jolie movies from 2001 and 2003. "The new project is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the original pictures. It will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain." So in essence, it's an origin story, meaning a younger Lara Croft. About.com caught up with producer Dan Lin recently on the red carpet of Terminator Salvation and got an update and more details about where this reboot is headed.

Must Watch: First Incredible Trailer for Sci-Fi Mr. Nobody
Nothing is real, everything is possible. The first trailer for Belgian filmmaker Jaco van Dormael's Mr. Nobody, a sci-fi drama starring Jared Leto, has debuted via Quiet Earth. We featured the film in our look at the 2009's sci-fi movies, but this looks much more incredible than I thought it would. It looks a bit like if The Curious Case of Benjamin Button were a sci-fi flick, and the "old age" make-up looks as good as anything Fincher could pull off (although that's hard to tell right now). But we'll certainly be keeping a very close eye on this, as it looks like it has the potential to be one of the best films of the year, sci-fi or otherwise.

Brad Silberling Says We Might See a Lemony Snicket Sequel?!
Wait, what?! Big budget, big effects director Brad Silberling talked with the guys at CineFOOLS recently and apparently said that there might actually be more Lemony Snicket movies. You see, Silberling directed Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, but that was back in 2004 and it didn't do so well at the box office, at least not well enough to warrant a sequel. At the premiere of Land of the Lost, however, Silberling seemed optimistic. "I would love nothing more than to do that and we've been hoping to, so I think there will be a chance it may take a wildly different form but I think it will probably happen."

Must Watch: First Trailer for Star Wars Geek Drama '77'
I'm not sure why everyone is so fascinated with making movies about Star Wars recently, but I don't mind, I'll see every last one, I'm a big Star Wars geek. I've actually heard of the movie 77 before, back when it was previously known as 5-25-77 - which, for those who don't know, is the exact day that A New Hope first came out. Unlike the movie Fanboys, this is more of a coming-of-age drama than a road trip comedy. There's also a lot of great movie references, as the story is about a wannabe filmmaker whose life changes the moment he sees Star Wars. Every true self-proclaimed geek should be watching this trailer right now.
