More Remakes: Park Chan-wook's Thirst and Bong Joon-ho's Mother
Another day, another few remakes. This time it's not just one remake, but six! Variety has published a brief update from Cannes outlining the remake status of six films from Korean directors Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho. The focus is mainly on Park's Thirst, which debuted at Cannes already and is being circled by big producers for a remake. But that's not the only Park Chan-wook film being remade - Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance remakes are all in development as well. As for Bong Joon-ho, his Cannes film Mother as well as the creature feature The Host are being circled, too.

The Weekly Moviegoer - Cinemas Should Be More Attentive
In latest week's column, I took a break from my usual complaints about movie theater operations in order to take a jab at the audience. But I meant not to appear apologetic of projectionists or to come off so passive regarding projection snafus. Despite my amusement with the way moviegoers react in certain situations, I definitely never consider it a moviegoer's fault for how long it takes for a problem to be remedied, and I definitely don't consider it a moviegoer's responsibility to take charge of these situations. While I may have in the past declared poor customer service to be the biggest problem in the movie theater industry

IFC Picks Up Lars von Trier's Controversial Film Antichrist
Did all the heated controversy surrounding the first reviews of Lars von Trier's Antichrist make any of you actually want to see the film? If so, then good news, as IFC has picked up the US distribution rights to Antichrist, and will be bringing it to theaters (hopefully?) sometime later this year. The only problem is that von Trier's crazy new film borders on the edge of being NC-17. Actually, it pretty much is straight up NC-17, so I don't exactly know how IFC is going to handle its release and/or if they're going to just put it out as an NC-17 film straight-up (kind of like Ang Lee's Lust Caution from a few years ago). Read on for more.

Cannes 2009 Review: Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds
What were you expecting? Quentin Tarantino's long-awaited WWII extravaganza Inglourious Basterds premiered today in Cannes amidst a considerable amount of buzz. I'll admit that it was the one Cannes film I was looking forward to seeing the most. But is it a masterpiece? Not exactly. Tarantino doesn't reach those heights this time, though he does kick things up a notch in a way that even I wasn't expecting. Basterds is a bit light on the action, heavy on the talking, and full of great performances. It's as awesome as Tarantino's first two films and as entertaining as his most recent few. It's the WWII movie we've been waiting to see.

Final Skynet Research Viral Update - Password Discovered!
In just a few days, Terminator Salvation will arrive in theaters. And that should mean that all the viral games related to the movie should be coming to an end, right? There's the one on twitter which seems to be wrapping up, but what about Skynet Research? That one has been running for a while and we haven't had any updates on it for a while - until today. Some of you may remember (or have discovered on your own) that on the Products page, if you mouse over the "P", a password box pops up. Don't know the password? We do! Although all credit goes to MovieViral.com for first figuring it out. You'll find the password below.

Check These Out: Photos from Neill Blomkamp's District 9
Now this is how I like it - no big reveals, no name actors, everything is still a big mystery! Sony has officially released three photos from Neill Blomkamp's District 9 that I wanted to share today. I honestly hope they're the only three photos we see before this comes out in August, although I doubt that'll be the case. The first one, which we featured before, shows Sharlto Copley as Wikus, a Multi-National United agent who becomes infected by alien biotechnology. I really think Sony is doing a great job building up hype for this, I just hope they don't reveal too much as it gets closer. I love how mysterious it is, so keep it that way Sony!

David Russo Directing Blue Man Group's IMAX 3D Musical
A story of Sundance success right here. As announced last year, Blue Man Group is making an IMAX 3D movie, not of a live concert, but a musical with an actual story. Hired to direct the movie is newcomer David Russo, who broke out at Sundance earlier this year with his directorial debut The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle. The script is being written by Lisa Robinson. The original Blue Men - Chris Wink, Phil Stanton and Matt Goldman - will all star. Visual development on the film is currently under way and will continue for several months. Production is scheduled to start in 2010 for a release in early 2011.

James Cameron's Avatar Getting Three Month IMAX Run
As Neo would say, whoa! Michael Cieply over at the NY Times is reporting that James Cameron's Avatar will most likely get a three month IMAX run. That means that IMAX is booking it to run for three full months, starting on December 18th, before they switch movies. I don't think I need to explain that IMAX can only run one movie at time - since most theaters only have one IMAX screen. If this isn't yet another indication that almost everyone in the industry is getting very excited for Avatar, then I don't know what else is? I'm sure the best way to see Avatar in 3D will definitely be in IMAX starting this December.

Aykroyd Spills the Beans on Ghostbusters 3 Shooting Plans
So all those rumors about Ghostbusters 3 arriving in 2011 were all true? Dan Aykroyd recently talked with our friend Geoff Boucher at Hero Complex and really spilled the beans this time. "Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson." Sounds like it's really happening with everyone on board. And as for whether it'll shoot soon, Aykroyd is hopeful, very hopeful. "I think we're going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter." And that's not the only thing he reveals about Ghostbusters 3.

Chace Crawford Replaces Zac Efron in Footloose Musical
Late last year it was announced that High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron would star in Paramount's big screen Footloose musical. But then in March, he dropped out, saying that he didn't want to do yet another musical so soon. So who did they find to replace him? Variety has confirmed that "Gossip Girl" star Chace Crawford will take the lead instead. I don't know many people who watch "Gossip Girl" so most probably not know who he is. Chase has only starred in The Haunting of Molly Hartley so far, but is also part of Joel Schumacher's upcoming film Twelve. Shooting is scheduled to start in March of next year.

Enzo G. Castellari Planning a Caribbean Basterds Movie
Did you know that Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds is actually based on 1978 Italian war movie? Well, not really, we're kind of pulling your leg, but it's more than just mere coincidence that the titles of Enzo G. Castellari's Inglorious Bastards (pictured above) and Tarantino's new film are the same - it served as an inspiration for Tarantino's latest, and isn't a remake or re-imagining at all (the story is entirely different). After a successful re-release of the film on DVD last year, Enzo is now back in action, and is in Cannes selling his newest project (via Variety), titled Caribbean Basterds, about a few bastard kids.
