Anne Hathaway to Co-Star in Tobey Maguire's Tokyo Suckerpunch

Not to be confused with Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, Tobey Maguire has been developing a project called Tokyo Suckerpunch, based on Isaac Adamson's novel. It was first announced a few years ago, right as Maguire was finishing up Spider-Man 3, but not much has really happened since then. However, SciFi Wire caught up with screenwriter Ed Solomon, who has been attached to the project from the start and has been working on it recently. In addition to talking a bit about the story, Solomon revealed that Anne Hathaway would play the romantic lead opposite Maguire in the movie. First time we've heard her attached to this.
The story follows Billy Chaka, a Cleveland resident and author of a manga about a "heightened version of himself." When his manga gets adapted, Billy flies to Japan to attend the premiere, but must contend with not only jarring culture shock but also mysterious fans and a mob-related kidnapping that starts to resemble one of his own crazy plots. Solomon explains: "He goes there with his editor, to be played by Anne Hathaway, and it ends up it's a love story about him and Anne, basically, and it's really about a guy figuring out what matters to him." How cute. Reese Witherspoon had originally been rumored for the role.
"I believe that for Tobey it's the perfect thing to go beyond that," Solomon said in regards to whether this would help audiences shake Peter Parker from their minds. "It's a romantic comedy—it's got a lot of action, but it's mostly comedy set in Tokyo, about a guy who thinks he's in love with one woman." Gary Ross, who directed Pleasantville and Seabiscuit, is attached to direct. With Spider-Man 4 coming up, we're not sure if Maguire will be able to fit this in before he returns as Peter Parker. But it looks like it's almost ready to go. And with Hathaway on-board, it sounds like casting is coming together as well. We'll keep you updated!

Wish Toby would focus on producing Macross.
Maybe he's waiting until the Transformers trilogy is done.

Sounds like an interesting idea that could be just quirky enough that, if executed right, ends up being somewhere between really good and a minor cult classic.

Whats with all these movies coming out with similar names? You got two movies with the word Avatar, you got two sucker punches, push, THREE jeckyl and hyde movies. This is getting stupid
