Javier Bardem to Play the Hedge Fund Villain in Wall Street 2

As we reported back in April, Fox is very anxious to get Wall Street 2 into production right away, to capitalize on our current economic situation, so that the story stays relevant. We know that Oliver Stone will return to direct, Michael Douglas will be back as Gordon Gekko, and Shia LaBeouf will join as the newcomer. But how about the villain? Nikki Finke reports that Javier Bardem has joined the cast as a hedge fund manager named Bretton Woods who LaBeouf's character thinks is responsible for some problems. One role still unannounced is that of Gekko's estranged daughter, who LaBeouf is to marry.
The latest draft of the script was written by Allan Loeb and is being turned into Fox later this week. The release is scheduled for February of 2010 and shooting begins on August 10th. The story in Wall Street 2 will span from June 2008 to the federal bailout in September. "We wanted to see some perspective in the same way that the original dealt with insider trading." This is certainly moving along swiftly and I think Bardem is a great choice, especially given how worldly Wall Street has become. The only other tidbit is that in the beginning when Gekko gets out of prison, he believes that the "end is coming." How appropriate.
