James Cameron Might Be Directing a Heavy Metal Segment?!

Whoa, now this is some awesome news! We've heard about that Heavy Metal movie that David Fincher is spearheading, but it keeps getting stuck in development hell. Well, our friends at Film School Rejects recently caught up with TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman and asked him if he had any updates. "I've got breaking news that Fincher and James Cameron are going to be co-executive producers on the film. Fincher will direct one. Cameron will direct one. Zack Snyder is going to direct one and Gore Verbinski is going to. Mark Osborne and Jack Black from Tenacious D are going to do a comedy segment for the film."
I wouldn't say this is completely confirmed news, because we've heard off and on that various directors would be directing segments, even though nothing has come together. At one point they had Guillermo del Toro attached as well as Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda) and Tim Miller. But the list keeps changing all the time; I've heard that Gore Verbinski isn't even attached anymore, contrary to Eastman's update. Fincher's plan is to get a total of 9 directors to direct different segments of the movie, which is based on the cult magazine Heavy Metal. It's an ambitious plan and if he did Cameron involved, then I'm truly amazed.
"Three other directors have agreed but we haven’t signed them, but they’re equally as jaw-dropping. So we’re on cloud nine to be working with such an amazing amount of talent," Eastman said. Our last update on this came from Eastman as well back in May. I don't know why our only updates on this are coming from Eastman, but if we are to believe what he says, then this is very big news. Right now everyone is 100% focused on Cameron's Avatar, but I can definitely see him contributing to this, and his involvement may be what it needs to finally get made. We'll let you know when we hear more - which will hopefully be soon!

well there's some news to worry about!
As far as Cameron goes I think he can pull it off, but after all it is Heavy Metal…
I mean with directors like Fincher, Verbinski, and Synder attached I have hopes and now that
Cameron is is involved hopefully this will turn out good.
With Fincher I'm sold I know he will deliver on his end.
Same with Verbinski even though At Worlds End depressed me, but that's a minor speed bump in
an other wise good career.
And Synder ever since Watchmen has me sold as well.
And now Cameron it seems to be coming together in the right manner.
I hope…

Cameron has proven to be one of the best directors. he invest amazing time and energy in every project and knows more of film technolgy than most of the other directors.
with such cast of directors involved in this movie, it could get interesting anyway.

James Cameron is one of the greatest movie directors of all time. #2 is just a microcephalic troll who likes to get a reaction. His "opinion" is worth about #2.

heavy metal is one of those movies that is timeless (at least to those with half a functioning brain)
heavy metal two was nowhere near as good, but it sounds like this one might be.
Cameron is a director that absolutely suceeds at whatever he is doing and would probably be above all #11 has listed. If he is on the project i hope his resulting work is closer to T2 than titanic
