Mike Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat Finally Coming to Theaters!

This may not be exactly the update you're expecting, but the very good news is that Michael Dougherty's fantastic horror movie Trick 'r Treat will finally be coming to theaters (after being delayed by Warner Brothers for nearly two years). It's scheduled to hit DVD sometime in October in time for Halloween, but before that, Dougherty has arranged a nationwide road show for the film, which will be kicking off sometime this July and running through October. Dougherty announced this today at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors along with a fairly short list of cities so far (that will definitely grow as they confirm more).
This is great news because there really is no other way to see this for the first time than in a theater full of other excited horror fanatics. Ever since I had the chance to see Trick 'r Treat in theaters late last year, which I absolutely loved, I've been waiting to write about it, as it's one of the best horror movies I've seen in the last 10 years (that's not an exaggeration either). The cities confirmed so far are: Montreal, Canada for the Fantasia Film Festival; Toronto, Canada for the Toronto After Dark Film Festival; Mexico for the Morbido Festival; Austin, Texas for Fantastic Fest; San Francisco, California; and London, England.
We'll definitely be keeping you updated on this tour and will let you know once Dougherty announces more cities. I can't stress enough that anyone who is a fan of horror needs to see this. If you're city is not already on that list, then hope and pray that it ends up on there soon, because you'll definitely want to see this in theaters. For more on Trick 'r Treat, go back and read my review or watch this very old trailer from 2007.

While disappointing yet somewhat expected ideas about horror are so off base, SAW is a horror franchise? My word the uneducated that get ahead…the movie looks decent for now. I have such high hopes for true horror to come back but everything is so unoriginal these days.

Like Alex, I had the oppurtunity to watch this at the screening presented by Moriarty and let me say that this is indeed THE definitive Halloween movie. No Michael Myers, no Jason, no Jigsaw, no, no, no to all of that stuff. Trick r Treat is a movie that MUST be seen in a theatre (especially during October) and after it's theatrical run, do yourself a favor and go buy the DVD or Blu Ray. Why? Because this is a movie you'll all be watching on Halloween night as tradition for many years to come.

Question, if they are planning to release it in a few theaters and then DVD why not nation wide…..I do not know the politics and the behind the scenes of making it happen so if anyone knows I would appreciate it….because the film does look like it has great potential
