Disney Confirms Monsters Inc 2 Behind Closed Doors?
June 7, 2009

This isn't the first time we've heard this rumor - that Pixar is planning Monsters Inc 2 for 2013 - but it is the first time we've seen some sort of confirmation from Disney, even if it not public. Jim Hill reports that a few buyers in attendance at the Licensing International Expo last week told him that at a behind-closed-doors sales meeting for Disney, they confirmed that Monsters Inc 2 would be director Pete Docter's follow-up to Up. Those who are still a bit hazy should know that Jim Hill is a Disney blogger who has tons of insider contacts, which means we shouldn't be taking this news lightly even though it's not official yet.
I attended a presentation for Pixar earlier today and it was consistently mentioned that it takes 4 years for a Pixar movie to be made from start to finish. Considering that Pete Docter just wrapped his worldwide tour for Up and that Pixar had only announced its line-up through 2012, it would make sense that Monsters Inc 2 could be their 2013 movie and Docter's next project. We ran a rumor like this back in February as well, so until we hear otherwise, I think it's very likely we'll be seeing this sequel in 4 years. While I'd love to see The Incredibles 2 as well, Monsters Inc 2 is definitely one of the sequels I'm very happy to see Pixar making.

Yeah has much as I hate sequels, Pixar is the only company I allow to make them. I really wish they would make a Incredibles 2 instead of a cars 2 (I hate that movie) but I'm excited for this.

@13 Finding Nemo should never get a sequel. He got fishnapped. They found him. End of story. Making a second one would be worst than making a Cars 2 What, he get's lost again? Glad to hear Monsters Inc. 2 is more and more possible.

Finding Nemo 2 could work. What if they get back home after Finding Nemo the original and discover some evidence that the baraccuda had not eaten Nemos mom and siblings….maybe she got them to safety somhow and had not been able to return yet but had been searching for Nemo and Marlin?
