Neil Patrick Harris Books Two More Feature Film Roles
June 7, 2009
by Alex Billington
Fresh off of hosting the Tonys last night, Neil Patrick Harris has lined-up roles in two new feature film projects. One of them is the starring role in the indie film The Best and the Brightest and the other is a supporting role in CBS Films' horror drama Beastly. Harris was last seen on the big screen in Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay last year and also appeared in Joss Whedon's "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog." NPH will shoot both while on his summer hiatus from "How I Met Your Mother" with The Best and the Brightest coming first. He'll also probably show up in the next Harold & Kumar sequel.
The Best and the Brightest is a comedy about a couple from Delaware who move to New York's Upper East Side and enter the world of the city's private kindergartens. Harris will play the carefree husband, who is not worried about his social status. He stars alongside of Bonnie Somerville as his "class-aware" wife as well as Amy Sedaris, John Hodgman, Peter Serafinowicz, Bridget Regan, Kate Mulgrew and Christopher McDonald. The film was co-written by Josh Shelov and Michael Jaeger and will be Shelov's feature directorial debut. Shooting recently began in Philadelphia. Sounds like a fun project with NPH that we'll keeping our eye on.
Beastly is a modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast in which Harris will play a blind tutor who helps and bonds with a teen (played by Alex Pettyfer) who is shellshocked from being turned into a "hideous monster" in order to find true love. Vanessa Hudgens and Mary-Kate Olsen also costar in the film as well. Daniel Barnz (Phoebe in Wonderland) is both writing and directing based off Alex Finn's novel of the same name. The project is currently in preproduction in Montreal. The newly formed CBS Films has a couple of teenage-focused projects in the works in addition to Beastly. We'll keep you updated on both of these NPH films.

Beastly sounds just like a chick flick so I wont see that. THBATB sounds alright and sounds even better as it has Peter Serafinowicz in.
The BIG confirmation were all looking for though is Harold & Kumar though. Infact, the films should be renamed 'Harold, Kumar and NPH' as hes that good.

I thought there weren't going to be any Harold and Kumar movies for a while due to Kal Penn going to work as an associate director of the White House Office of Public Liaison.

Looking forward to seeing TBaTB. I like NPH, and to also have the lovely and talented Kate Mulgrew in the same movie is going to be awesome.

Beastly is going to be made a film?!?!?! Hallelujah!! I love that book, what's best is that NPH is going to be Will!
The only thing that sucks is that they're casting Vanessa Hudgens as Linda. I don't see her as the character at all.
