Del Toro Confirms Hugo Weaving and Two Others for Hobbit

Now this is an update on The Hobbit worth writing about! Guillermo del Toro appeared as a guest on Simon Mayo's BBC Radio Show yesterday (via TheOneRing.net) and talked a bit about The Hobbit. As I've mentioned before, there's only so much news that del Toro can reveal, since it's so far out and we've already heard pretty much as much as he knows. However, he did confirm that at least three big actors would return - Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, and Andy Serkis as Gollum. Not that anyone expected we wouldn't see these three return again, but it's a huge relief to hear this from del Toro himself.
Guillermo also spoke briefly about some other elements of The Hobbit, like about bringing in more subplots. "There is a whole other chapter, so to speak, which is the comings and going of Gandalf which are dealt with — people that know the lore know that Gandalf was delayed with a crisis… with a character that is very shady called the Necromancer that proves to be Sauron." In addition to The Hobbit, he also speaks about Hellboy III, his Frankenstein movie, At the Mountains of Madness, and more. If you'd like to listen to the entire episode, it can be found here. Even though it's 3 years out, I'm getting excited for The Hobbit already.

Hellboy III? I'm surprised since the second one was not well received. Still, good to hear. I like Hellboy.

"Give me the ring…..boy!".
You just read that as Bayformer's Megatron.

The second one wasn't well-received? It has an 88% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, far from negative.

Regarding Hellboy III, he says that sadly Ron Perlman feels too old for all those prosthetics now, and a third film isn't likely.

As long as Ian McKellen is back I'm good. I hope Christopher Lee returns as Saruman too but it seems like his age is really catching up with him. It would be awesome to see him in there again though. Saruman was one of the best characters in the LOTR franchise and it sucked that his death was cut out of Return of the King.

#4 Ron made Hellboy awesome and part 2 bearable to watch. W/o Ron, there should be no sequel.

Farris: Have you seen the Return of the King extended edition? You can see Saruman's death there.

@ #11. I was responding to the comment from Farris #6 where he was saying that it sucked that Saruman's death was cut out from Return of the King. So, I don't know what you are referring to.
