Danny Boyle's Next Project Might be About Mountain Climbing?

As part of the announcement today that Danny Boyle has signed a three-year deal with Fox Searchlight and Pathe, the LA Times hints that Boyle's next project might be a drama about American mountain climber Aron Ralston. Fresh off of winning the Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, Boyle has signed a deal with Fox Searchlight and Pathe Pictures, who will co-finance and co-produce all of Boyle's projects for at least the next three years. Boyle previously worked with Searchlight on Slumdog Millionaire as well as 28 Days Later, Millions, and Sunshine, so the two are already acquainted. Should be a great few years for them!
As for Boyle's next project, the LA Times says that the Ralston film is "a possible initial production" under the new Searchlight deal. However, Variety says that "the director has yet to announce his next film" but over on the Risky Biz Blog they say that "the verdict is finally in on his new project." So is this actually his next project or not? Aron Ralston was a mountain climber who, while hiking Utah's back-country in 2003, had to self-amputate part of his arm with a dull knife when it was pinned by a boulder in an accident. It seems like a very personal story, but I'm sure Danny Boyle will turn it into a fascinating character study.

I'm not going to lie…if done well, this could be an incredible movie. It would be very difficult to watch, but it would also be very moving.

That's a link to a video with Ralston himself describing exactly how he did it. It's hard to get through it without welling up. It's that powerful of a story.

I honestly do not know how Slumdog Millionaire got so many awards but I hear that the cast along with the director and everyone involved deserved it. I am curious to see how his next project does.
