Moon Hits Theaters in NY and LA Today - More Cities Soon!

If there is one movie you just have to go see this weekend, it's Moon. Directed by first-time filmmaker Duncan Jones, Moon stars Sam Rockwell as an astronaut working alone on the Moon. It's one of those indies that needs as much support as it can get - and if you've been waiting to see it (and live in New York and Los Angeles) now is your chance. However, if you don't live in either of those cities, Sony Pictures Classics has setup a website to let you know when it will be opening in other cities over the next month. I really can't say enough good things about Moon and thankfully I'm not the only one who really loved it.
Will Schiffelbein, the host of our Film Feed podcast, gave Moon a perfect 5/5 rating in his review: "On the reels, Moon is one of the best films of the year. While the film could have easily slipped into a one note vehicle for an actor to deliver a stand out performance, Jones creates a strong plot and striking visuals."
Mali Elfman of ScreenCrave follows in suit with a 10/10 review of her own: "If I could recommend any film to you this year, it would be Moon. It gets me excited just thinking about it. It has everything, drama, intensity, visual effects, and most importantly a greater meaning for you to walk away with."
MTV's Kurt Loder loved it as well: "Moon, [Duncan Jones'] first feature, an assemblage of miniature models, carefully applied CGI, meticulous production design and an extraordinary performance by Sam Rockwell, takes — or returns — cinematic science fiction to some fascinating places."
Rolling Stone's critic Peter Travers gives it 3.5 stars out of 4 in his review: "Director Duncan Jones (son of David Bowie), working from a script by Nathan Parker, pulls off sci-fi miracles on a $5 million shoestring. Moon is a potent provocation that relies on ideas instead of computer tricks to stir up excitement."
Hopefully all of that praise has convinced you to go see Moon this weekend. I first saw the film at Sundance earlier this year and gave it 8.5 out of 10 in my review. I had the chance to revisit it last weekend with a good friend of mine who was excited to see it and we both thoroughly enjoyed it - the second time for me, the first time for him. Next weekend, on June 19th, it opens in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Diego, Chicago, and Boston. Throughout June and July it opens in over 40 more cities. You can find the full list right here. I'm dying to see this movie. A shame that crap like Imagine That with Eddie Murphy can be shown everywhere, but honest films gets swept under the carpet.

Farris, walk down three blocks to landmark sunshine and its playing. I am assuming you are talking about the Angelika Theater in New York on Houston street. Not the one actually in Houston.

This film was astounding, what a great theatrical experience. All the style and intelligence of a 70's science fiction film, with a newfound sense of hope wrapped in cynicism that only the new millenium could bring to film. Sam Rockwell was profoundly brilliant and the production design was breathtaking.

Saw it at the Arclight Hollywood. Good movie and a great performance by Sam R. We had a Q&A with Mr. Jones after the movie and he said the money cost $5M to make which i thought was interesting to hear. Most of the effects are models and not cgi. I liked that too.
Clints score was awesome as always. But it seems like it will not be released…

I doubt that sd, I saw Moon at Tribeca with a Q&A from Jones, Rockwell, and the writer and they said that it was going to be released. I don't know why it wouldn't anyway, The Wrestler's score was and that was literally one song.

I just went to watch it tonight in NYC. I was surprised that Duncan Jones was at the movie theatre to introduce the film. I was very happy that I did not miss this film. It was well done and Sam Rockwell's performance was extraordinary. 8/10. BTW I didn't know he was David Bowie's kid
