Are You Ready for Some Danny Trejo Machete This Year?
June 16, 2009
by Alex Billington
Back in April, Robert Rodriguez announced that he would officially be making Machete, the full-length version of the Grindhouse trailer starring Danny Trejo. Its a project that Trejo has been talking about ever since Grindhouse flopped back in early 2007. But we didn't know it would actually happen until April. Then we started hearing that Rodriguez would be rebooting Predators and that he had a sci-fi action movie called Nerveracker in the works, as well as other projects like Sin City 2 and The Jetsons. So will it still happen? Yep, definitely! Trejo told Gordon & The Whale (via The Playlist) that they'll begin shooting in 5 weeks.
As Gordon & The Whale's James Wallace says, "Guess that ends the debate on what Rodriguez’s next film is going to be." Not that we thought it would be anything else - that April announcement did say "Rodriguez is eyeing a June start date in Austin." He's also bringing on Ethan Maniquis, his longtime editor, to help co-direct. So are you ready to see some Danny Trejo Machete this? While I'm still amazed that they came up with enough to fill 90 minutes, I really can't wait to see Danny Trejo killing bad guys for an hour and a half. I'm just wondering if this will play in theaters or go straight-to-DVD? We'll have an answer soon enough!

I'm pumped, cant wait for this I wonder if the footage they already shot for the trailer is going to be in it? I also wanna know if it's going straight to DVD or theaters, and if it's gonna have that same grindhouse feel as the trailer?

If there's one thing I can count on in a film with Danny - it's Danny being a bad ass. Danny is a GREAT bad ass. Doubtful this can fail.

I think that it could play very well. I wasn't the biggest fan of this movie but I have enjoyed other Rodriguez films.
