Finnish Nazis-on-the-Moon Movie 'Iron Sky' Gets Funding
June 16, 2009
by Alex Billington
Check out that concept! The project, titled Iron Sky, has finally secured the last bit of funding it needs to moved forward. The Finnish Film Foundation has given them the last $1.1 million that was necessary; other financiers include Walt Disney Finland and Finnish broadcaster YLE as well as co-producers 27 Film Production in Germany and Film & Music Entertainment in the U.K. The movie, as you expected, is a genre spoof about a group of Nazis who escaped to the moon before the end of World War II and are planning a new Fourth Reich. Shooting will start in January with a cast of German second-tier stars for a 2011 debut.
I actually first heard about this back in May when Film School Rejects posted a batch of crazy awesome concept art (like that ship you see above). Finnish director Timo Vuorensola will be making his directorial debut with Iron Sky. The cast includes Gotz Otto, Udo Kier, Julia Deitze and Tilo Pruckner. This really sounds like one of those badass foreign genre projects like Mutant Chronicles and I can't wait to see it come together. Apparently the budget they've put together is "huge for Finnish standards," which I hope means it'll look as good the concept art does. We'll keep you updated, but for now, check out the teaser on FSR.

This is hilarious. Especially considering Walt Disney himself, was a Nazi sympathiser.

This sounds great. I heard somewhere recently that a friend of Mac Brazel who saw some of the wreckage that was found in Roswell back in the 40s, claimed that he saw swastika symbols on it. I gotta go Google that and see if I can find out more info. Anyway, makes for a great movie story.

The article is incorrect.
Walt Disney funded the real nazis when they left for the moon, not the movie about the story.

The NASA has still problems to lunch the Endeavour to an earth orbit nowadays, and you want to tell me the nazis brought all this iron and technical stuff in the 40´s to the moon? C´mon! Mercedes Benz isn´t that perfect!

#11 Yep, I think these are the guys who made that "Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning" satire, which was (in my opinion) very well made, all things considered. Ivanova doing nothing more than issuing parking tickets to the spaceships, and Garibaldi spending the whole movie drunk….

#11 & #14 it is definately those guys. They have based the film on a book half based on facts and half summmised (made up) That the Germans developed a form of anti gravity flight at thier V2 mountain factories. As the Allies advanced they moved everything and all invovled to a secret Antartic base to carry on the research. They sealed the mountains by blowing them up with all the slave labour still inside.
