Must Watch: Red Band Trailer for Park Chan-wook's Thirst
June 17, 2009

by Alex Billington
Focus Features has debuted the official US trailer for Park Chan-wook's Thirst over on IGN today. If you can't stand the sight of blood - especially if someone is drinking it - then I don't suggest watching this. It's a red band trailer meaning they don't hold back, especially on the grotesque stuff that Park Chan-wook has put into this. The film has already been scheduled for a limited release starting on July 31st. Hardcore cinephiles should be familiar with Park Chan-wook, the Korean director who brought us the incredible Vengeance trilogy, including Oldboy. This time, it's a story about a vampire, but it's still as twisted as ever.
I had the chance to see Thirst when I was in Cannes and gave it 7 stars in my review. It's a good film, but it doesn't live up to Park Chan-wook's past films. However, this is a brilliantly cut together trailer - so enjoy!
Watch the official red band trailer for Park Chan-wook's Thirst:
Apologies for the new low res IGN version - the MPAA forced us to switch to this version instead!
A beloved and devoted priest (Song Kang-ho) from a small town volunteers for a medical experiment which fails and turns him into a vampire. Physical and psychological changes lead to his affair with a wife of his childhood friend who is repressed and tired of her mundane life. The one-time priest falls deeper in despair and depravity. As things turns for worse, he struggles to maintain whats left of his humanity.
Thirst is directed by South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, of Joint Security Area, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, and I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK previously. The screenplay was co-written by Park Chan-wook and his writing partner Jeong Seo-Gyeong. This first hit theaters in Korea back in April. Focus Features will debut Thirst in limited release starting on July 31st.

Yes please. Awesome. Why can't Hollywood make movies like this anymore? Even David Cronenberg doesn't make crazy stuff like this anymore.

i thought there was supposed to be an abudance of blood in that trailer…
let the right one in was a good movie, i'd would also say that recently 30 days of night was a freaky vampire movie (although the endng was a bit weak)
but this, although it has an interesting and fresh premise, seems more of a fetish movie

the term 'fetish movie' makes me laugh. which may also result from me wanting to laugh at the foot sucking scene.
i may watch this. not sure yet.

Foreign films are outdoing (reboot) Hollywood. This looks like an interesting twist on the tired Vampire stories.

Vampirism is a fetish, the fetish of blood. I'm sure that girl's foot was cut…or something. Anyways this film looks truly awesome, can't wait to see it!

@Jules
Because an individual who just drinks blood but is still a normal human, wouldn't be really interesting anyways.

I caught an early/private screening of this movie and I was quite amazed by it, a great piece of work, but I would still have to go with "Let The Right One In."
