Michael Clayton's Tony Gilroy is Rewriting Red Dawn?!

Wow, I'm not sure I believe this news! Not that I don't believe Latino Review, but I'm just shocked that such an amazing screenwriter has been brought on board for this. According to Latino Review, Oscar nominated screenwriter Tony Gilroy has recently been hired to rewrite (or at least polish) Carl Ellsworth and Jeremy Passmore's original script for MGM's remake of Red Dawn. Earlier in the week we announced that that Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki would be starring in the remake and that Bourne Ultimatum second-unit director Dan Bradley would be directing. However, Gilroy's name is now the most exciting part of this.
Gilroy most recently wrote and directed Michael Clayton and Duplicity. Before that, though, he worked on the screenplays for The Devil's Advocate, Armageddon, Proof of Life, and all three Bourne movies. Gilroy is one of my favorite screenwriters currently working. Even El Mayimbe says he's "one of my top five favorite all time screenwriters." Besides all those previous credits, I'm certain he's done a lot of uncredited script polishing in Hollywood. Really, he's a brilliant screenwriter, and if he's involved with Red Dawn, then I think we can expect some very good things. My expectations at least have gone up considerably tonight.
Although I was looking forward to a modern day Red Dawn, I really wasn't expecting anything great until this news hit. I'm curious to see if this collaboration - Gilroy and Bradley - results in a great movie or not.

I have had my best dream ever come true! The original was cutting edge in terms of depicting America's archilles heal (then - Alaska and MExico)

…also, can throw out some ideas of casting
Jed - Lieb Schreiber
Matt - that guy from Dawson Creek - the one from Shutter!
After all, they can pass for brothers in real life
Robert - Ryan Reynolds
just a thought…..

I am actually looking forward to this now that Gilroy i up for it. I did like the original, not the acting, but the actual story. If it could be done with greater depth, some action and some really good drama. I could believe this to be a great movie.

DAMN!!!!!!!!!
I thought remaking Red Dawn was the worst idea imaginable, but with Mr. Gilroy writing the script, this might be pretty damn decent.
Let's just hope they get an A-list director too. But if they end up casting Zac Effron, we're FUCKED!!!!!!!

matt damon as jed and hillary swank as matt they could pass for brothers in real life. hahaha
as long as this film, at least, shows that not ever teenager knows how to use semi-automatic weapons on there first day of attack, that would be great.
Also, stick with not-so-famous people. But then again, Hollywood doesn't have the balls……….

Red Dawn… Bbut with Chinese and North Coreans this time?
Ha!
In any case, I'm really looking forward to the movie: a good script + some decent CGI for airplanes/ helicopters/ destruction & crowd scenes will do the trick.
