The last time we heard from writer/director David S. Goyer about his upcoming project The Invisible Man was late last year, as he was starting to tour around for The Unborn. Since that hit in January, to rather dismal reviews, Goyer has remained somewhat out of the public spotlight. ShockTillYouDrop finally caught up with Goyer today in the offices for his upcoming TV show Flash Forward and got a small, bit positive update, on The Invisible Man. Yep, this is that remake, or rather re-adaptation, of H.G. Wells' classic story about, well, an invisible man. "I've since finished a draft and I'm in the midst of revisions."
"Universal seems pretty high on it. So, they're just breathing down my neck to get the revisions done. It's a movie they'd like to make," Goyer says. That's definitely good news, but as STYD also reports, Universal probably won't give The Invisible Man the greenlight until The Wolf Man, due out in November, is a big hit. Other potential classic monsters that Universal could bring back, if Wolf Man does well, include Bride of Frankenstein and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Last year Goyer explained that his concept "actually deals with a nephew of the first character. It’s got some of the characters from the H.G. Wells book, but it’s kind of a continuation." He story will see the Invisible Man captured by MI6 and turned into a secret agent.
I'll be crossing my fingers and hoping Wolf Man is a huge success. Beyond the fact that it could be a great movie and deserves that success, it could give Universal the confidence it needs to explore so many other great classic monsters. And that is something I'd love to see, Goyer's The Invisible Man certainly included.
