Paul Giamatti in the Trailer for Sophie Barthes's Cold Souls

Samuel Goldwyn has finally debuted the official trailer for Cold Souls starring Paul Giamatti as Paul Giamatti. This quirky little comedy, reminiscent of Being John Malkovich in a way, is simply about soul removal. Paul Giamatti wants to remove his soul, so he does so at a new startup company in New York, but then they accidentally misplace it, and he goes to Russia in search of it. Unfortunately, I didn't think this story was as polished as a Charlie Kaufman story, but it's still wacky and fun, in a very cold way. You'll see what I mean in this trailer. Though I do have a desire to revisit this once it hits theaters in a few months.
Although I saw this at Sundance, I never reviewed it, so I'll send you to IONCinema: "This idea of trafficking souls goes beyond fiction, but the brilliance is how the filmmaker manages to normalize the absurd."

Paralyzed with anxiety over an upcoming role, Paul Giamatti stumbles upon a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by deep-freezing souls. Giamatti enlists their services, intending to reinstate his soul once he survives the performance. But complications ensue when a soul-trafficking mule borrows Giamatti's stored soul for an ambitious, but unfortunately talentless, soap-opera actress.
Cold Souls is written and directed by first-time Ukranian filmmaker Sophie Barthes, of only a few shorts previously. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year where it was bought by Samuel Goldwyn Films for distribution in the US. Cold Souls will hit limited theaters starting on August 7th.

Haha, looks like a great movie.
Paul Giamatti is great for playing… uhm… Paul Giamatti.
The overall story doesn't seem all that solid but the character and his development as well as the enviroment will make it a great movie, I think.

Hm. I am a huge Giamatti fan. I am not too excited for this, but I will have to see it before I judge.
I hope it is great. No doubt the lead man will pull it off flawlessly.
