Larry Doyle's 'Go Mutants!' Novel Headed to the Big Screen

Universal has acquired screen rights to the new Larry Doyle teen comedy/adventure novel "Go Mutants!" Imagine Entertainment producer Brian Grazer will develop, with Doyle writing the script himself. The story is set in a high school where all of the tropes from classic 1950s alien invasion movies came true. Years later, the children of those mutant creatures have assimilated among the other kids. Doyle said the book and the movie invite cameos from '50s monsters like Gort, the robot from The Day the Earth Stood Still, and the creature from the black lagoon. The book won't be published until next summer, so don't go looking for it.
The studio bought the rights on the basis of an outline, and Doyle will finish the novel this summer and work on the script at the same time. A few of you may recognize Larry Doyle (seen above), as he's the same author who wrote the book and the screenplay for the upcoming summer teen comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper. The concept for Go Mutants! sounds like a great idea, even though it's a very long way out (he hasn't even written it!). I'm also glad that this ended up at Universal, that way they could potentially work in some of their classic monsters like Frankenstein, Dracula, or The Mummy. We'll be keeping an eye on this.

Wow this site is great-I can’t get over the video I just submitted. Check it out at www.iloveyoubethcoopermovie.com. If you haven’t heard of I Love You Beth Cooper yet you need to take a look at the trailer because it will crack you up. The movie is all about revealing a crush that a nerd in high school has on a girl who happens to be the hottest girl in his class. And he does it during his graduation ceremony! Thinking back to high school, I wish I did something like that, but it’s not to late right! When I first looked at the website, I didn’t think I would wind up submitting my own, but after all of the laughs I got from the one’s I watched, I had to! I also read about a competition for the videos, if you’re selected you get it broadcasted on national TV!
