Ryan Reynolds to Star in Rodrigo Cortes' Thriller Buried
June 25, 2009
by Alex Billington
So what's next for Ryan Reynolds now that he's done with The Proposal and before he heads back behind the mask to play Deadpool in that spin-off? The 32-year-old actor is set to star in an indie thriller called Buried being directed by Spanish filmmaker Rodrigo Cortés (of The Contestant previously). Reynolds will play a civilian contractor who's kidnapped in Iraq and awakens buried in a coffin in the desert, armed only with a cell phone, a candle and a knife. The script was written by newcomer Chris Sparling. Production will begin this month in Barcelona. Versus Entertainment is funding the film, wich will be shot entirely in Spain.
According to Variety, Reynolds decided to go the indie route for his next role as a way to stretch his "acting chops" in a movie with a claustrophobic premise, and one in which he's on screen throughout most of it. I actually like the concept of Buried - it's pretty badass. And it's even more badass with Ryan Reynolds starring in it. He's one of my favorite actors these days because he has such a great manly charm to him yet still can kick ass and be funny all at once. He did a great job in The Proposal and kicked ass as Deadpool in Wolverine (before he was turned into Weapon XI). I'll be looking forward to seeing how he does in Buried.

I absolutely agree with you Alex i am pretty excited about the title although it's the first time for me to hear about it.
Reynolds got the potential and what it takes to be a comic and serious at the same time he is really one of my favorite actors too.
I am really hyped about this title it seems different and cool from what he normally does.
Hope you can keep up posted with info about this title every once in a while.
Thank you.

Sounds like an excellent story with a very tough subject matter. Surprised to see him take this role but sounds like a great role for him to expand his talents on. Looking forward to hearing more about this.
