DreamWorks Picks Up 'I Am Number Four' for Michael Bay
June 26, 2009
by Alex Billington
DreamWorks, not Paramount, is finishing a deal today to pre-emptively purchase the movie rights to I Am Number Four, an unpublished science fiction book, for Michael Bay to produce and possibly direct. Key word here is possibly. And this doesn't mean that he won't be directing Transformers 3 either, so don't get your hopes up. The book is the first in a planned six-volume series purportedly co-written by "A Million Little Pieces" author James Frey, although WME was shopping the book to studios under a pseudonym. Bay loved the concept and brought it to Stacey Snider and Steven Spielberg at DreamWorks who snatched it up.
The I Am Number Four story line involves nine alien teens assimilating to high school on Earth after their planet is destroyed by an enemy species. The fourth of the group discovers that the enemy is now after him on Earth. Yep, sounds exactly like a Michael Bay movie, that's for sure. And there are certainly going to be plenty of explosions. Spielberg is expected to be an executive producer and will work closely with Bay on this movie, just as he did on the last two Transformers movies. It's an interesting concept, sure, but I need to know more about it to be convinced it's something we should be keeping a closer eye on. Thoughts?

I like alien movies, with Bay behind the wheel the action should be sweet….lets just not talk about script and acting in Bay movies anymore its just irrelevant after T2.

Sounds pretty generic to me. Need more info to be considered a fresh new take on alien life on earth type of movie.

It sounds like it could be interesting. Until you hear that teens are involved and michael bay is directing. They better get some good teen actors and not turn it into some shitty teen drama science fiction movie. but i know this is what will happen

Sounds fucking sweet. Michael Bay + Aliens + the bored American Public = a killer 2.5 hours. Anyone who argues takes themselves way too seriously.

Baller concept, the more people chill out and just learn to enjoy Michael Bay the better. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who understands box office revenue drivers any better.
